Hi All,

I fitted my Autocom and QPAC2 last week and found I'm getting really bad engine interference noise through the headphones. Can anyone tell me why ?

I have an 1100GS with ABS and mounted the AutoCom unit on top of the air filter box. I took power from the green and black wire on the rear brake light switch, and took the earth cable to the neutral battery terminal (as AutoCom suggested). I also have the suppressed red and black Autocom box needed when using SatNav.

Cheers

Not sure what a QPAC2 is, but is it external powered?

A good place to start looking is that anything that is plugged into the autocom AND plugged into the bike for power, has a high probability of causing "ground loops" in the electrical system. This causes symptoms simular to what you describe.

Autocom sell cables with "ground loop isolators" in them (what you have plugged into your GPS)... or you can go to Radio Shack (try Maplins) and buy one cheaper...

I'd try to power whatever is making the noise from an external battery as a first test.

I don't think you are radiating any noise into the Autocom system, it's pretty bomb-proof that way, but it is possible. Try shifting the routing of your wires around while listening and see if the noise changes...

Just spoken to AutoCom, apparently I've located it too close to the engine, and it's picking up interference from there. I'm going to move it tonight when I get home and see if it fixes the problem. I'll post my findings.

Cheers

Right, sorted the problem. Their was no problem with the location of the AutioCom unit on top of the air filter box, the problem was the red black supressed box needed for the SatNav was mounted too near the engine, and picking up interference

Unfortunatley I've got another problem with it of which I'll post another thread
