Hi guys, my second question of the day, hope you don't get fed up with me! 🙄
As I mentioned in my post about my tracker, I am fitting cameras to my bike. It's a BikeBro dual camera, had it on my last GS and my RT before that. On the RT there was loads of space and it worked well but on the GS it was squeezed under the pillion seat. The control box measures 70 x 70 x 22mm. The problem I had with the GS was that it interfered with the front tyre pressure sensor. The dealer checked out the sensor and confirmed it was the camera. So I need to mount the box away from the electronics under the back seat but there isn't much room anywhere else. As I keep my seat low, not much room under the front seat either. Any ideas where I could mount it?
Cheers, Pete

The ECU is located under the rider seat. It's rubber mounted with mounts at each end, and this makes it 'float' with respect to the box . This leaves some space underneath which allows for putting stuff. But if there is enough room for camera box? I have no idea... Neither do I know if the camera box, interfering with tyre pressure box, will interfere with the ECU.

You could try to shield the box with some kind of wrap and then mount it under the airbox or similar, think tin foil hats that some of the forum members should be wearing to prevent random thoughts being put down in writing.

When the K series bikes came out their ECU had to be shielded as the VHF radios interfered with them

Had a similar problem with my camera set up. My unit was mounted under the riders seat, rear camera caused problems, cured just by moving camera lead to the opposite side of tpm unit. Worth a try.

Thanks guys for the information, should be able to sort it out with the help of your advice.
I will be needing to remove a few panels to fit the cameras, while it's in bits I hope to remove the tracker, if I can figure out where it is and how!?

Cheers,
Pete

Philboy's post indicates to me that there is radio interference coming from the wire runs, they could act as an aerial.
I have managed to get my hands on some stainless tubular wire braid. I'll do all the cable runs inside that and earth it to the chassis. Hopefully that will sort it. Will report back.
Thanks again for all the help.

Cheers, Pete

I agree that you ground your braid to an Earth point on the bike, to prevent interference, and suggest you protect anywhere it passes by paint with shrinkwrap or it’ll rub the paint off.

Dont forget to only earth the braid at one end. Too long to explain but google will tell you why.

Hi Rowie, I also have the same material in nylon that is specifically for naking up wiring looms, that will help protect everything. I also know to only earth one end of the screening. When I was at college as an apprentice, I could have told you why you only earth one end, but lost in the mists of time now, it was a long time ago!
But thanks for the reminder

If you are getting interference from a camera either car or bike dvr, use a ferrite noise suppressor, you put one of these at either end of the cable fairly near the plus.

You can either just clip it straight onto the cable, but if you go up one size, you can loop the cable once through the magnet and clip closed, It helps reduce electrical noise. Worked well for my car's front rear dvr as myself and wife had radio interference, and this helped enormously.

If your cable only had one plug and is wired into the camera, then place one near the camera, and one at the other end.

Give it a go, it may solve your problem.

Now got everything ready to fit my cameras to the bike: ferrite noise suppressors, woven braid, earthed at one end for all wire runs, nylon woven braid to cover it to stop abrasion damage and a waterproof plastic box for the camera control unit.
I need to get at the control unit without too much trouble if I want to view any of the footage. As suggested, there is enough room under the ECU for the box.
But what is the best way to mount it? I'm thinking some sealed cell foam on top of the box and zip ties round the box and ECU so that the box is held tight under the ECU?
Or does anyone have any other ideas?
Cheers, Pete
