Auto Express H4 lamp tests

Auto Express have carried out a test of ‘Plus 50%’ H4 lamps, the outcome is quite surprising!

First… Halfords Super Brilliance!!!
Second… Philips Power2night GT150

Philips VisionPlus recived four stars but was well behind the two above.
The Osram Silverstar, normal a top performer received only two stars, very poor!!!

I have used GT150s and am well pleased. Got them from Nippy Norman.

3 sets of bulbs sourced from GE - the Halfords, the GE and the Rings. One came top, the other in the middle and one last.

Explain it to me, if the factory churns out 3 bulbs per second (guesstimate!) on the production line

Dutch / German

Curiously, they also describe Dutch company Philips as "German giant Philips". Philips may have a facility in Aachen (right at the very edge of Germany) but that hardly makes them a "German giant"

Now I know the Dutch have a line in their national anthem about being of German blood, and their royal family is even more German than ours, but every dutchman I know would be pretty pissed off to read of Philips as being called a "German giant".

I note in the test of 4000K H4 bulbs .... http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/203974/bulb_test_h4_blue.html ... of halogen H4 bulbs operating at or near 4000K, that the PIAA Platinum White bulbs yet again were rated very poorly when put up against competition from the likes of Philips and Osram, though perhaps surprisingly the Extreme White PIAA bulbs did well in this group, though the "beam rating" of 87 was still a massive 20% lower than the winning Halfords and 15% lower than the GT 150.

Phillips plus.

Some time ago in the BMW Club Jounal there was the reprint of an "independent" testing session of all common bulbs. The phillips came first
and guess were the test was carried out?, yes the phillips laboratory!.
I put these in my 1150 GS and this was a great improvement (anything other than standard being better) have now seen the light and gone HID from Nippy's. price is a pain but they all work and fit ok, a friend had one from Hong Kong on E-Bay and it dident work, so buy closer to home and go oi if it don't work.

Just put the Halfords one's in my 1150. Excellent, very bright, and even better at the moment they are buy one get one free
