Thanks for that - all it did was reinforce my feeling that I did the right thing by buying a Starcom1 unit instead of waiting for the new Autocom's to come out.
They say they are in touch with Riders wants and needs - which explains why their new units are still HUGE in comparision to Starcom1's, and why they still use the Nokia Bluetooth Car kit instead of catching up on the mobile technology front and giving us something designed for motorcycles... I could go on and include the cost they expect people to pay as well, but thats not the point is it.
I'm fully willing to eat my words once somebody with waaaaay too much money forks out the 350+ quid (conservative estimate) to get the equivalent of the Starcom1 Advance unit (with bluetooth of course!) and tell us just how good it really is.
For that sort of money Autocom are asking for, their new units better smack idiot drivers in the head from a range of 2 miles so that riders have troublefree journeys imo

I bought a starcomm at the bike show last year.. havent got around to fitting it yet, but the people on the stand were a bit nicer than the guys on the autocomm stand who just wanted to sell me last years overstock.. and not their latest model which they didnt have any of at the show..
The only thing the autocomm guy went on about was the quality of leads..
well i have to admit the lead the autocomms guys showed me ( and i kept
to compare with the starcomm ones) was very good. And the one on the starcomm are indeed a bit thinner, BUT, the starcomm leads look tough enough and havent heard of masses of people complaining about then breaking.
HOWEVER.. they did sell me an out of date radio that i have since found out production had stopped on apparently,,
without telling me.. now it works ok.. but i think they should have let me know. Starcomm radio prices are a bit high, a quick searching around you can get things such the Kenwood TK3201 ( Legal UK model not an illegal Hong Kong import) for £125 (Radioactive Limited Wrexham 01978664242 ).
I will do a comprehensive write up on the starcomm1 adv unit when i get it on the bike and setup. My recommendation so far, would be Starcomm..

I did actually get to use my Starcom1 Advance unit 'proper like' yesterday for all of 20 minutes or so before my bike engine blew up.
It solved the issue with the TomTom Rider provided bluetooth helmet speaker (i.e. could hear everything very clearly - even had to turn the volume down on the Rider), and there was no lag at all on the bluetooth side - didn't miss out on any words, not even once.
I wish I could say more, and I'm sure I will once I've got access to the Starcom1 unit again.
Being able to listen to music was very nice - and the VOX capability (not tested over a phone or radio, just as a 'see if it cuts out the music' test) worked a treat.
So far from my 20 minutes of exposure to Starcom1 in the real world, I cannot see why I would want to even consider buying an Autocom unit, as I can't see how they could dramatically improve the sound quality, loudness etc etc etc - given they are significantly more expensive from the get go.
