While surfing I found the following:

"New Autocom kit
Autocom have brought out a bluetooth adaptor for their communication systems. This will enable any bluetooth mobile phone to connect WIRELESSLY to the Autocom unit. £115 for the kit."

which was interesting as I've just got a new phone which has bluetooth.

Has anyone tried this yet?
Any good?

So it seems. It is briefly mentioned in their brochure here but no picture or detailed description.

I prefer the idea of the new Schuberth bluetooth device.

Bluetooth helmet with speakers and mic installed plus a bluetooth unit (similar to the autocom) that can take GPS, music and walkie talkie inputs - obviously bluetooth phone talks directly to the helmet.

No nasty cables between rider and bike.

Schuberth , then click Motorrad followed by bluesonic.

Mouse

I've heard release in spring but nothing definite. No price either.

Just click the various links at the bottom of the page to see various pretty pictures... seems self explanatory to me.

Just to swing the thread back to the Autocom unit..

it turns out to be a standard Nokia kit!

I didn't manage to find out if there is anything in it that makes it worth me buying it from Autocom. I'm going to go to find out if it's cheaper from a mobile phone shop and will let you know how I get on!

which one is it then (link, reference, picture)

Most of the kits have a very short but bulky mic broom which makes them unsuitable for a motorcycle helmet.

I know some manufacturers (also BMW) are working or already have a bluetooth helmet. Wonder if there are seperate stereo bluetooth kits available yet so you can listen to music, talk to your pillion or other bike and make a phone call without all that wiring hassle and without the need for a new helmet. I am happy with my BMW EVO system one.

BTW. I am still looking for a simple fm RDS radio solution for my bike. Is a car radio in one of the panniers really the only solution. I know there used to be some SONY FM walkmans but they are currently out of production.

Cheers

looking forward to picking up some cheap "obsolete" kit as people trade up(?) to brain melting technology.:)

It would suggest that a new (hybrid & powered via autocom?) nokia blue tooth attachment plugs into the normal phone jack-plug instead of the phone lead on the autocom. This then picks up the blue tooth signal from the phone, which allows you to use the phone via the autocom headset.

I'm waiting to find out if the phone will 'ring' through the autocom helmet speakers as a normal hands free blue-tooth head unit does.

This to me has been the weak point of the standard phone link with the autocom, as you can't hear the phone ring when above 40mph. You can use vibrate and put the phone in your pocket but I prefer to stash my phone in the map holder of my tankbag and use the auto answer mode.....

Many a time I have been merrily singing along to my cd player when travelling at 70mph(+) and heard a small voice saying "hello, hello, is there any body there?" because I didn't know the phone was ringing. :headphone

I didn't get the model number but will look into it futher today.

Just to be clear this is an additional unit that plugs into your existing autocom unit and not a 'bluetooth' system in its own right. This means that the microphone and speakers are standard Autocom ones.

What I don't know is if there is anything extra in the Autocom kit that doesn't come with the Nokia car kit (half of which you have to bin as it's designed for your car!) and how much the Nokia kit is without Autocom's markup

dug a bit deeper and the kit is the Nokia Advanced Car Kit CK-7W which Autocom want £90 for but which you can buy here http://l8shop.net/Products/Nokia_Advanced_Car_Kit_CK_7W.aspx?=a for £68

There seems to be an extra adaptor for Sony Ericsson (guess what phone I have!) which costs £30

Obviously the unit is designed for a car and so is quite large. I'm going to have a look at one tomorrow to see where it could fit on a GS
