Autocom Tom

I also have a new problem, I installed the GPS leads etc got the part 57 and now I have what I can only explain as engine noise through the speakers, if I pull the clutch in it stops but as soon as I am away I can hear the engine buzz and gear changes.
...

Seems like you are picking up some interference through the new GPS cable, I had a similar problem. re-routing the cable may help. Make sure its away from the regulator and the ignition leads etc. As the GPS probably goes to the bars it can pick-up intererence from the engine electrics etc.
Just an idea but it may work.

Yes I would be prepared to accept this but my MP3 player (Creative Zen Touch) is effected exactly the same as our voices are so I don't think it's just that - If we could hear each other speak at 80 I'm sure we would be able to hear the music.

hi system addict

just wondered if u were able tosort the vol prob with your autocom
i have creative zen micro i just bought and the vol thru the autocom is pitiful at full setting ..did you get sorted ? can you give me any advice ?
cheers

boosteroo. Does it for me.

The main thing about these little mp3 players with drives in them is that they work by having very sensitive headphones and a low output. You're better off boosting it externally off AA batteries than cranking it up at the player where it gets distorted above about 16 (zen micro).

Boosteroo - look on ebay. I got one for about 15 quid.

This is their Website

I just got the original one, the newer one seems to have more gain, which would let the Zen run longer.

The Boostaroo Revolution is the best thing to use but you can't get hold of them. Just received my Boostaroo looks the buisness just tried it on normal earphones works a treat.
PS don't suppose anyone knows how to make it bike powered? it runs on 2xAA batterys 3v supply in other words.

Kyle - I haven't tracked down the elusive AutocomTom yet but I have tried moving my headphones around without success.

I'm going to contact Autocom again this week so if I get any resolution I'll let you know.

... Take back the outer cover and with a hot spoon, hot enough to melt the polystyrene, make a depression in the polystyrene so the speakers fit into them, make it deep enough to put a strip of velcro in to secure the speakers. Alternatively use a dremel tool to cut a pocket.
Jim. I'm not using Autocom earphones, but a speaker I bought from Adventure Motorcycling specifically for GPS, but how deep do you need to melt the polystyrene? The polystyrene on my cheek padding must be a good 1" thick, so I'm guessing that the "depression" needs to be substantial, otherwise the voice prompts are going to get very distorted, if the sound has to get through too much.

ej .

put the speaker between your ear and the padding not underneath the padding . then if you do the hot spoon thing you only need a depression deep enough for the speaker and the sound doesnt travel through the padding

good luck

The problem I can see with that, is that I would have to cut the fabric lining. If I take the cheek pad out, the back is exposed. As the fabric is glued to the edge of the back, I cant see how I can do it your way without making a hash of it.

While trying out the earpiece for volume etc, I just masking taped it to my ear - which worked well, but I did look a nob. :D

should the speaker not go in the padding behind the cheekpad ?
then you can usually pull the lining back to expose the polystyrene . i know all lids not same but worth checking

Spoke to AutocomTom yesterday who listened while I explained he had posted here saying he could help anyone get perfect results and how I would appreciate his help before telling me "oh we have a team of peaple to do that" and put me on hold while he transferred me!

Not quite the response I was hoping for!

Anyway... the guy I ended up speaking to basically said I had the speakers too high up. (I have an Arai lid and put the speaker inside the lining of the cheekpad in the V of the foam padding on top of the Styrene pad)

I've moved them down so that about a third of the bottom of the speaker is covered by the foam pushing back on it. Haven't had a chance to try it for volume but he did say that if I was using it on full volume the I couldn't have the speakers in the right place.

I'll try to get out tomorrow and let you know the results.

Autocon Tom you are a star!!!

Been thinking about purchasing an intercom for the bike for a while and have been pondering on a couple of different manufacturers, Starcom, Intaride and of course Autocom. What you've told us there Si has at least ruled out one of them for me.

Brother in law recently purchased a Starcom1 system, sounds good and volume is excellent also, I think that may be the way I'll go. They're also a little cheaper than Autocom.
