I've just upgraded my autocom which leaves me with an easi 7 advance unit. Can this unit be used for bike to bike use. I have a pair of Kenwood T5422. I have all the wires needed for VOX operation on the new autocom unit. I'd like to use the old easi 7 unit for the girl friends bike but I dont know if it can support bike to bike communication. If it can, will it support VOX or will it have to be PTT which I'd rather avoid for her. If it can, what leads would I need.
Cheers

There is no VOX on the Easi-7 Advance, so it will have to be PTT. I believe you will need parts 1506 (was148) (interface between Easi and PTT), part 1440 (was 113) (interface from PTT to T5422) and part 1454 (was 133) (handlebar PTT switch). This little lot cost £60-ish back in 2006.

I am going to be bold by suggesting that you wait just a litle bit longer and treat the GF to the new 2009 Autocom Logic unit with VOX and sidetone (hearing your voice through the speakers) - premiered at the NEC in 2008 - and due to be released well in time for this summers riding season. The new digital power management in this unit promises excellent battery life -with the option to bike-power if required.
The Easi-7 had no side-tone either, so with the Logic it will be much easier (and therefore confidence-inspiring) for the GF to modulate the strength of her voice when using the radio.
..and no, I'm not on commission from Autocom - wish I was! Just here to help.

Thanks for the swift reply. To be honest the easi 7 was only an idea for use of the redundant unit. It was only going to go on a little slowped she has to get thru her CBT. She doesn't want to go any further than using the slowped for geting to work on dry days. So it was only as an aid to her when preparing for the CBT. For the sake of spending a fortune on a complete new system I dont think its going to be worth it. By the way, what is the side tone you mentioned?

Side tones is when you hear yourself talking in your own earpiece at the same volume as the pillion would hear it. Makes it easier to know if you are shouting or not talking loudly enough. Very handy
