Autocom fit to 1200 GSA

Hi Ian,

As our systems were designed and on the market before the Zumo's the AUX2 sockets are mainly there for music use so there is a 50% mute when the mics are opened.

So when a Part 1299 is being used on a phone call for example every time you speak with a person on the phone their volume is muted 50%, this make the calls hard to be heard.

With the BT dongle plugging into the AUX1 socket which is designed for phone use only there will be no muting at all on any calls, we then use a Part 1314 which is a 2m long isolated music lead that will run from the Zumo cradle and then to the AUX2 sockets on the systems to connect the GPS and music side of the Zumo.

Or you could run the BT dongle by itself but they are not designed for stereo music so the music will not sound the greatest but will run fine for the phone and GPS instructions if you were to run a seperate music source.

I'm a bit frustrated / confused by all this

I've just installed an Autocom 200 and a zumo and have bought lead 1299 (the one Autocom sell with their Zumo kits) and find exactly the problem above with the phone calls :spitfire

I spent £38 on this lead which I thought was not only cheaper but a better solution (being hardwired) than the bluetooth ??? I can't believe Autocom themselves know that it doesn't work with phone calls this being the main purpose of the two-way leads, but fail to mention it !!!!

What's your view GSRich....is there a solution or am I stuck with this lead and now need the BT dongle after all ????

The way I have set up me Autocom is as follows-

-Main unit located in tool tray along with isolater units

-Spliced into live(red/green) feed wire for accessory socket, earthed to negative on battery

-Used standard Autocom mp3 and phone leads but used an isolater unit between the Autocom unit and the leads to reduce any interference from the bikes electrics

- Autocom leads routed under the fuel tank cover

- Autocom leads plugged into Zumo GPS on upper screen brace on GSA

With this albeit fully hardwired set up the whole system works completely as it should and is plenty loud enough to hear voice prompts and music at motorway speeds even wearing earplugs with zero electrical interference

The isolater units I got off ebay for around a fiver each here

Nick, do you use the phone in your hard-wired setup? this is what Ian is concerned about.

Update - I checked this out tonight, and with everything going through the lead from the Zumo to the Autocom, there is no phone mic, i.e. you can hear the other caller but they can't hear you.

Thanks for checking this. It seems to have the system I need the bluetooth module. I guess the problem is due to zumo not accepting mic input via the wire or due to the feature not being supported by autocom ie it doesn't provide a mic input via wire to the zumo.

Bump......any ideas ??? ;)

The Part 1299 DOES work with the phone calls but the main problem is the muting side via the AUX2 socket. Hence why we recommend or try and sell the Part 1273's/1276 and Part 1314 combinations.

The lead fitted with the 2.5mm jack plug on the Part 1299 connects the microphone line of the Zumo. So I would check that this is plugged firmly inot the isolatino block of the lead as this could be causing you the issue. Or the problem could be the cradle for the Zumo which is a common problem

Thanks GS Rich........the phone link is working it's just the 50% muting you refer to that I am getting, which makes the calls inaudible.

Not sure what to do now..............as in you reply to my other post it seems I also have the wrong autocom system (200 not 300 to power the TK-3201).....this seems to be getting very expensive :(.

Friends are suggesting I just fit a VOX headset to the TK-3201 and forget the autocom altogether.

I should clarify my comment above in that the lead I refer to is the 1307 supplied in the kit, or the optional isolated version - 1314. As Rich says the optional 1299 lead connects the Autocom's mic line to the Zumo. I find the Blutooth dongle method is fine, and of course there's no volume dip on the phone when vox cuts in.

With the money you saved by getting the system 200 instead of the 300, you can invest in a part 1402 powered TK-3201 interface for £27 to get the same effect.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Beemerboy :thumb2, do you have it working this way successfully ? The Autocom brochure states that part 1402 is for the Super-Pro AVI.

Mark,
My apologies, I have to retract my comment about the 1402. It was late at night and I wasn't paying attention to the brochure. The 3201 appears to have a 7.2V battery so, apparently, it would not be possible to adapt the 1402 straight to the bikes 12V.
Maybe someone knows of a suitable car charger..........

mark, you could post me your Active and I can get the muting feature taken off for you no worries at all this will help on the phone side of the set up. But you will have to think abuot losing the music muting at well.

As for a VOX headset straight into the Kenwood good luck....thats all I will say :augie

Thanks for all your help guys.....especially GS Rich :beerjug:.

I now have the BT Dongle (I was able to return the cable to my dealer...ta)and will fit over the weekend, to that issue should be all sorted.

While at my dealers we talked about powering the TK-3201 and part 1402 which he sells to people for use with their 200's as well as 300's. We tried one on my bike with my 200 and it seemed to work fine......is there some reason why I should not buy and use one of these parts with my 200 and TK-3201 ???

GSRICH ?????? Help ???
