does anybody on here know of anybody/dealers/garages/auto technicians who will fit a new autocom to my 1200gsa? live in stourbridge west mids. i contacted autocom who are now based in cambridge and they recommended balderstones in peterborough but i could do with somebody a bit nearer if possible.... oh.... and clarkes at rednal didnt even know that autocom were back in business!!?? so......... any advice please would be greatly recieved:thumb2

Do it yourself its really easy

Splice into the live green/yellow wire going into the underseat accessory socket and it'll power down with the ignition, negative onto the battery and then take some time routing your cables. :thumb2

hmmm... may just do that.... not rocket science is it really. fitted my last one myself to my blackbird but all seems so different on these bavarian tractors:ronno

It is not that hard to fit. If you slice into the the auxillary power socket under the seat, just taking a positive feed and the negative to the battery. I have my Autocom unit in the tool tray, works fine. What I did which on reflection was a bit over the top was get the additional power lead for extra sockets and sliced into that. Then I put an extra power socket on the beak.

Found this photo if it helps. Ignore or the lack of rack etc, I made I right b..lls up of this and in a rush put the seat on trapping a lead against the seat release catch.......All sorted now

thanks for the pic, thats where i was thinking of putting it. the only thing that was putting me off doing it myself was that when i bought the bike the dealer told me not to mess with the jack points unless i was 100% sure of what i was doing otherwise i would create loads of other electrical problems because "bmw bikes are so different to jap bikes"

advancedbiker.... is that the super pro autocom you have got there? if so does the phone connect to your sat nav? (if you have satnav) if so what is the bluetooth connection like? on my previous autocom (pro7) the phone was linked with a wire so reception was brilliant but i wanted my phone to go through my zumo 550 and the only way that can happen is through bluetooth so i am told

Guys, why do you recommend only getting the positive from the Aux power socket under the seat and not getting the earth from the socket as well?

I'm just putting in a power lead for my Autocom and was plannig to use the positive and negative from the Aux socket under the seat to reduce the wires. I don't use the Aux socket for anything else...

The Earth from the battery terminal is less likely to give you any interference.

Keep using the positive from the Aux as it will give you switched power.

This is a good post:

The lead you need is part number 61127712581. Just take the plug off the auxillary power socket uner the seat and plug the new lead in. I took the view - I would rather mess with the extra lead than trying to mess up the original wiring. All I did was find the positive wire and solder the Autocom positive to it,

Good Luck

Radio location......

Talking of Autocom - where does everyone think the best place is to mount a Kenwood radio? The only reason I ask is that I understand reception is better for bike-to-bike comms if the aerial is vertical.

Cheers.

From my own experience and others of this parish, sticking it into the tankbag appears to be the most popular.
Needn't necessarily be upright but you've got the height to help out.

*GEEK ALERT* Radio Waves move away from the antenna like ripples made by a stone thrown into a pond. If you lay the radio down the waves will ripple vertically not horizontally, therefore reducing the distance the signal goes. HOWEVER, if you are in a group you are unlikely to ever be more than a few hundred meters apart so it really doesn't affect the communications that bad. A good tip though is to stand it vertical near the end of the day when your radio battery is low, to regain the distance. :thumb

Cheers Guys - both valid points regarding the radio. To be honest though, I'm looking at a permanent fixture so I don't always need a tank bag.......I'm going to have to get creative
