I'm thinking of fitting an autocom onto my 1200GS and will obviously be fitting a headset.

My concern is how obtrusive the headset and leads will be.

I use my bike equal mileage commuting and touring, however I would not be using the autocom for commuting so don't want lots of spare wires hanging around my helmet.

So my question is, how obtrusive are the wires? Can they be fixed out of the way for normal use i.e. tucked into the lining somewhere, then pulled down for touring, or will they allways be dangling and be a general pain??

It's easy enough to dispense with the dangle if you want to....I've seen several guys who've glued the plug to the side of the helmet so they have zero dangle.

I have mine hanging down about three inches, which is just enough to bring forwards so I can see it in my peripheral vision to plug the other end in.....being a cack hanbded git in gloves, I find that easier.

It doesn't bother me when it's not connected.....if i look over my left shoulder it might tap me on the shoulder pad but it's not a bother.

I've stuck Velcro on the Socket of the headset lead and stuffed it into the lining so that it's just accessible enough to plug the Unit lead in....before putting gloves on...so that you can feel the groove....man;)

I bought the intermediate "curly-wurly lead" and leave it plugged into the helmet plug close to the side of my lid.

When not actually plugging in to the Autocom socket on the bike, I just stuff the lead into a jacket pocket.

I never notice the lead whether it's pluugged into the bike or in my pocket.

I got a purpose made clip that sticks on to the side of your lid with a tiny zip tye attached. Just the jobby mate! - Pidcock B*W at Long-Eaton (Notts) gave me a couple for free so you should be able to get some easy.

Use the spare helmet for commuting and "voila", no dangly bits :D :D :D

Mine used to dangle but I've now opted for the zero-dangle arrangement. Much more hygienic!

I have a patch of velcro on the side of my helmet, and a similar patch wrapped round the end of the lead coming out of the helmet. When not in use, the dangly bit remains attached to the side of the helmet thanks to the velcro, and seems secure at three figure speeds.

I asked Autocom about this whilst my lids were being fitted by one of thier techies and he gave me a couple of 'P' clips which stick on the side of the lid and hold the connector so you get no dangle.

Perfect!

I believe they sell them for a couple of quid.
