Im just at the early stage of fitting the Autocom. At the mo ive sorted the head set out and have just connected it loosley to a live feed to make sure everything is working ok. I got the red light ok, and after playing with the vox, have got my voice coming back at me. Everything appears to be ok prior to me doing a proper install apart from a low hiss im getting consantly through the speakers. Its not particularly loud, but its there non the less. The hiss comes on as soon as i plug the headset in and remains constant, this is with no background noise and the engine turned off.
Could it be a shite earth or is it somink else ?

The power source ive been using at this early stage is some accessory wires that are live, coming from the 12v socket. I do not intend to hard wire it permanantly to these wires for obvious reasons.

Cheers all,

I'm sure GSRich will be along shortly but sounds to me like you have the vox set too "low" and the unit is open all the time. Try and increase the vox level. :thumb

Hiss

Just tried it again and altered the vox setting, but the hiss is still there. One thing i did notice, the vox seemed to activate at the same level no matter what i set it at with the knob. I was under the impression that if i turned the vox right down it would mean i would really have to raise my voice to activate it, but no, it activates no matter what i set it at.
Im sure there are some simple answers, but im stumped at the mo.

Hmmm. Turn the Vox to maximum and see what happens.

What unit are you using?

Hiss

Have you got the connections on the headset correct for the mike and the little helmet mike for internal noise levels

Ill check, but i think they only connect one way.

cheers,

Paul

I think the hiss is the intenal amplifier of the Autocom, so try connecting the negative wire directly to the negative battery terminal. I think you have a bad earth.
If you have fitted the BGNS into the helmet, then do make sure that you connect into the riders lead on the Autocom.

Having just installed mine I recently looked at the leaflet re: the vox setting. The instructions specifically say that fiddling with the vox setting will make no difference at rest. I think it works with the BGNS to make it LESS sensitive at speed so it doesn't activate too easily the faster you go.

Is background hiss interference from being placed to near some other circuit/battery etc?

The hiss is just normal speaker hiss which is due to the analogue maps being used on the board. It is nothing to worry about and you will not hear it when you get moving.

Changing the VOX level on the Super Pro will not make any difference as you are only setting the swing pattern for the VOX.
