autocom loud whine with hids

when i switch my hid main beam on i get a very loud wine in my headphones
i have a early eurocom 5 pin
any ideas

Where is the power taken from and what are you running on your system?

The problem could be power or lead related. I would recommend running the comms stand alone so the GPS is disconnected to see if the same occurs.

Power wise I take it you are meaning a 1200GS and the live is taken from the power socket? Is the earth connected to the same point btw?

no its on my r1200rt i have got a bmw adaptor onto the back of the rear socket so its switched ?

No troubles then but I will stil ladvise running the comms stand alone to see if the noise is still there.

So again where is the main system earthed to?

right had time to look at bike today
so a recap
autocom eurocom
power connected through back of power plug on the tailpiece on my r1200rt 2006
so power & earth through two pole plug
audio & voice through
two cables
no 1 autocom code 0807043 special build
& no 2 part no 172

disconected zumo still loud wine when hids on

another point i have thought about might intercom be to near hid ballast
not a lot of space on rt & as i dont have speakers in fairing i have intercom on oneside of fairing & hid balast on other side separated by clocks
also have folded cables at back af intercom as quite long

It would seem to me the interference is caused by the HID unit, and I would suggest getting hold of a few of these ferrite rings :- http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=ferrite ring&source=15

Just wind the power leads for the HID, and a seperate one for the intercom, a couple of turns through the ring - as near as possible to each item. If this doesn't cure it, you may need to use rings on the intercom audio leads, also.

I have a similar problem with my Zumo and Starcom system but suspect it is more of a 'ground loop' whine. The Zumo is plugged into the canbus with connector but the Starcom is direct to the battery terminals. Think I will either have to ground the Zumo direct to the battery or connect the Starcom to the canbus system to get rid of it. Anyone know if it is safe to take power from the canbus but earth direct to the battery? Or does the earth have to go back into the canbus for the computer to work it all out?
