I'm really sorry to ask, because I can see this has been done to death in the past, but I can't find the right thread, dispite searching and RAM-man telling me what to search for :tears :tears

I'm getting a buzz when I try to power my iPod and output it through an autocom Active 7 Smart - I thought I found the answer in this artical as I do have this Autocom part, but for some reason only one of the channels seems to suppress, does that mean the other is broken or does it mean its doing what is supposed to do ie only suppress one channel?

The Autocom and the iPod are power from unsuppressed cabling running from the rear underseat aux power supply and the gps is powered unsuppressed through the front aux power supply.

I read somewhere (and understood in the past) that you can suppress these power lines the same way you used to a car stereo, but do I need to suppress all three units separately or can I suppress the two that are power from the same port together?

I guess I will need to try it to see if that fixes the problem as the other thing that I'm wondering is, is the noise picked up on the audio cables? they are standard Autocom ones to I assume they would be shielded?

Sorry guys, I know this is all a pretty numpty question to some, but I've read and read and either can't find an answer or the ones I can just fly over my blonde head :(

Excellent - so its just a different lead? not an entire new part 57 (or what ever it is now :)) is there anyway to visually tell the difference between these leads as I have three with the system when I bought it second hand.

mind you for £28 I might just go buy it as I'm spending more than that in time trying to understand the problem to ask the right question ;)

Scratch that I've just found one on ebay and I can see exactly what it is and that its different to all the leads I have. Cheers Rich, much appreciated!

My Part 57, used for only 3 months on the bike has died in socket A.

Or rather, the A socket makes intermittent contact with the GPS jackplug.

'Cos the Part 57 is actually 2 yrs old - it took time to get round to fitting everything to the bike - Autocom, on phoning, said tough-titty and buy a new one.

My tame electronic design engineer has looked inside said box, huffed and commented about less than stellar soldering and things, has told me he can sort it out in 5 mins when he's next back in the UK.

The Part 57 is designed to split your phone socket so you cna run GPS/radar and also a phone. Its not designed for music due to it running on mono not stereo.

The Part 1314 is a fully isolated music 3.5mm jack plug sockets either end an isolation block and this will plug straight into your music socket and ipod.

Droopy, Im sure that we would of not of said that, the offer would of been send it back to us for inspection then a possible repair. I cant really see us saying "tuff titty" somehow when we are still servicing and repairing systems that are 10-12 years old! The repair would of been cheaper than a new Part 57 as well.

Cheers Rich,
That explains a lot - will see if I can pick up part 1314 today and redo all my cable routing :( oh well, should have used the right part in the first place...

John

PS no as much as I might like to have said it in the past :augie "tuff titty" doesn't sound like a good business response to any customer query :D

Ok. I used some licence.

But, the guy I spoke to did say to send it back .. and then told me that a repair would cost more than a new Part 57 ....

I guess my 'issue' is that although I bought the part 2 yrs ago, it's only been in action since late late-July.

Hi Rich,
I've tried both of the local dealers (NOG and Bransons) and niether stock the item. Is it something I can buy from you guys direct?

if not can anyone suggest a good Internet based Autocom dealer?

Yeh you could speak with Sam at Chainspeed as he holds a lot of stock and is a very good dealer of ours or you could speak to the chaps in my office direct on 01926 431249 and they can post the part out direct to you no probs.

Droopy, bending the truth is not a good thing my friend defo on forums where our good name can be easily be turned!

Cheers Rich, I got the part in the end from ebay, arrived today as I missed the postie yesterday.

I've not fitted it yet, but I have tested it with everything linked up and the bike running on the centre stand and it seems to be perfect - no noise at all with the ipod off (there was a whine previously) and seems to suppress all the noise as the engine revs climb

Now all I need to do is work out how I get it all to fit in an AQ2 :(
