Autocom & Quest Interference

Hi all

I'm experiencing some interference through my headset since installing the power/sound lead (QPAC) to my quest.

I went out today to test it for the first time and I am getting a wistle and a buzz which changes with engine pitch.

I have attached a picture of my set up.

I listen to a zen micro mp3 player held in the Hein gereke bag you can see in the pictures. On its own I get good sound and no interference (with or without engine).

If I mount the quest in its holder all is well until I start the engine and then I get the interference.

The quest is on a Ram mount attached to the instrument bracket and the QPAC lead runs behind the instruments down the right side of the headstock and under the right tank panel back to the battery.

The autocom is in the tool tray under the seat.

Before I go pulling everything to peices again or ringing autcom has anyone out there experienced the same thing and found a way around it

Any help greatly apreciated.

What part are you connecting the 2 together with?... it should be 172,173 or 174 anything else will pick up interference...

The quest is connected to the autocom with the 2.5 jack lead that came with the intercom.
The mp3 player is similarly connected using the 3.5 jack lead.

Both leads run together with the QPAC power lead behind the right hand panel

Llama, I believe,other threads have mentioned this interference before. For the Autocom they recommend a suppressed lead ( I think Ste is using Autocom part numbers on the obove reply), and this should improve things. Its a mono sound output from the Quest as well, so you would be much better off getting the specific lead.
I tried mine tonight using a lead that was connected to a mobile phone on my last bike, and didn't get ANY sound AT ALL!!!, new lead from the NEC at the weekend for me methinks!! LOL

Had the same problem but easily sorted, but will cost you another £30 :
Required Autocom mono to stereo lead plus Autocom part 57 which is a 'twin isolated input adaptor lead.' Cost of Autocom bits £30 inc p&p

An earlier thread said that part 57 simply reduced the sound level, but I can report that sound level difference is negligible and it has worked 100%

Greetings from Istanbul,

when I first installed my Autocom on my R1100GS, I cleverly had the idea of building my own "music lead" extention, to avoid the "seat removal" to plug the lead to the device. Ended up with "whinning" and "thicking" interference from the engine and enjectors. Re-locating that self-made extention helped to reduce this interference. So; you should also consider the changes at the lead's path; if it gets closer to the enjectors and other sources of magnetic impuls. However; at the end I had to remove the self-made lead and totaly got rid of the interference. If you for some reasson using an alternative lead to connect the mp3 player, please use the original Autocom lead.

If you are not using the phone input you can use part 174, if you are not using the grey aux lead you can use part 172, or you could add part 57 and use your existing lead ... choice is yours...

I didn't realise that different leads were required.
Looks like its going to cost me £24 then
