autocom+starcom

Been up my local bike shop yesterday and he's a starcom dealer, who told me that starcom are buying out autocom and are going to keep the products going seperatly. So i wonder if they will eventually faze out autocom or to combine the 2. Any one got any thoughts on this one if its true.

i doubt very much if there's any truth in this rumour tony . if there had been i'm pretty sure it would have been mentioned on here before now

Yep, it is definite - Starcom have bought Autocom and are moving the operation to Cambridgeshire. Autocom products will continue to be supported but don't expect this to be indefinite.

I think this sort of comment undermines and casts doubt on both the future of the Autocom AND Starcom product ranges.
Since Starcom bought out its largest and most bitter rival in the UK, one would have to wonder why Tony Starling spent whatever he did, just do away with Autocom in the long term (if he thought that it was an inferior product). He would have to be brave to do away with the brand name of the world premier wired intercom system.
I see a long term future for both product ranges - but I'll let Mr. Starling sort that one out.

I would be very happy if the combined company enable you to mix amnd match the products.

I have a Starcom but (as posted elsewhere) I find the cables and plugs to be inferior to Autocom. If there was an adaptor kit available ....

Why would he have to be brave to let Autocom go -- IT WENT BUST ANYWAY.

He may have bought Autocom so that no one else will be able to provide a ready made communication system and so he now ends up being the sole supplier. If he drops autocom then he is still the sole supplier and you will have little choice.

In my business I did exactly the same - bought a large bit of equipment (even though I have the two newest in the country each costing £250,000) so as to prevent any of my competitors buying it.
I now the the three newest in the country and better than any governement laboratory including the Central Science laboratory or the Environment Agency.

....... and what does this do .. gives me a 10yr edge on any of my competitors and as their market share decreases they are less able to justify the expenditure to purchase a newer one.


This is probably what Stacom are doing .... but only they will know and he is not going to tell anyone on here.

Don't forget StarCom have also brought any patents owned by Autocom which they can then generate income with, or include in their own range for no fee. I've only used Autocom, but if the best bits of both companies[1] come together in a new product, I might be in the market for an upgrade!!
