Autocom Super pro Auto

Hi Folks,
Can anyone here inform me as the powering up of Autocom ?

With Starcom units when you plug in your helmets you energize the system

to turn it on . Question does the same happen with Autocom products or


is it stand alone switched or ignition to energize ?

depends...

on the model of the autocom. Most are powered from the bikes electrics but some have the option for a self-contained battery. Generally they are hard-wired to the bike.

I think you have misunderstood the question, I have an Starcom at

the minute when I wish to use it ( it is hard wired in to the bike) I just

connect my helmet lead and this completes the circuit and the Starcom is

on when I disconnect it, it is swiched off.

What I'm asking is has the Autocom the same ability ?

With an autocom generally when you turn the ignition on the unit is powered up, it does not matter if the helmet lead is plugged in or not. ign on = autocom on. When you plug your helmet lead in your speakers/mic are connected to the autocom. Sorry it's probably me being slow but I'm more than a tad confused as to the gist of your question.

No, it's one area that the starcom has the edge over the autocom.
You need to wire the auyocom to only be live when the ignition is on. So when you turn off the bike the intercom turns off with it.
With the autocom is stayed working until you unplugged.
It's they only thing that I miss from the starcom, I find the autocom better in every other respect

purchased an Autocom Super pro auto. Just want to know now where did I

put that spare in line fuse and switch LOL...

Why dont you just piggy back of the power outlet, turns off and on via the ignition - simplest way. When you turn off the ignition it closes down after a few seconds, the lead to the headset is then completly isolated.

I'm not certain the power out socket is switched via the ignition on all models, I do believe on the older models pre canbus etc they are permanently live.

Hooked off the back of my Power Socket on my old 1200 to power the Autocom.

Although the Starcom system sounds clever how often do you want to use the system with the bike powered off?

You should like the better sound quality / volume of the Autocom, and in my experience they last forever, spares are easy to get as well, although I have never needed more than a connecting lead and Mic refurb kit.

BMW have installed all my Autocom units, and they've always spliced into the lead for the taillight, which is under the seat unit on a GS.

Tried the power out and hey presto it will switch off after about a

minute and a half so jobs a gooden there....

Yes the sound at standstill seems more clarity but have yet to try on the

open road I'm sure it will perform as you suggest..

Just one thing I have saved me twin end cable from Garmin 550 that

plugged into Starcom for telephone use, have now tried to use with new

Autocom and can ring out and hear person other end but alas they cannot

hear me !! me thinks more dosh for the 4066 cable to suit Autocom I

thought they would have been one and the same cable

Yes. That's why it takes a while to go off. The German brain is having a think about what you just did. It's not sure if you switched off the bike by accident or are just stopped for a piss. So it waits to see. While its waiting it also asks whatever is plugged into (or wired into) the socket what it is. If it says it's a charger then it has a chat and keeps the line open. If it's not a charger and it finally decides you actually intended to turn the bike off it allows your instruction to shut down the electrics. Unless that is, the device you have plugged in gives an unclear, wrong or confusing answer - then it might stay on thinking it is a charger, but actually letting the accessory run down your battery so you are fcuked int he morning (read the many posts about the Garmin Zumo keeping the socket on and draining the battery - intermittently!).

So, that's why the BMW mechanics tap straight into the tail light. When you turn the bike off, it turns off. Every time. No confusion, no dead battery - ever.
