Mines under the tank, was fitted by the dealer in the cavity where the servos for the ABS brakes would be ( another benefit of non ABS bikes :D )

If your fitting GPS give serious consideration to a mounting system which would place it above the clocks, down on the bars means taking your eyes off the road much more than over the clocks. :thumb

Common place is on the handbook bracket that's behind the battery / below the back of the tank. That's where I put my active 7 IIRC.

I ditched the useles tool kit and the tool kit tray.

I put the Autocom and a Kenwood radio in their place.

Gets sprayed with dirty water and grit but no problems in 12,000 miles.

You can just see mine in the left of this photo up against the tank:

I must admit I’ve been lazy with my pro-7 and bunged the lot in the tank bag as it will run from a 9v battery. I can than keep the mp3 or radio and mobile, all safe and dry.

I’m interested in new Autocom model but it has to be bike powered, it has some useful features and with a GPS on the cards it maybe easy to hardwire it all in. But where do you put more sensitive kit like mobiles/mp3 players without having loads of cable flying around.

Any ideas?

I've piped electricity into my tank-bag and put my Gerbing heat controler and Autocom in there... The wires to both run out the lower corner,at a nice place to plug in..

I tywrapped the works onto a sheet of plastic (placemat) to hold in place and keep the wires out of the way..

Put mine (an old Pro-M1) underneath the extra luggage rack beneath the pillion seat, the PMR sits in one of those tidy wee bags that sits underneath the rear luggage rack.

I also ran a couple of extensions up to the clocks so I can plug in and remove my phone and GPS as and when I like.

For power I just tapped into the aux power socket.

Headset plugs are cable tied to one of the rear luggage loops and the riders pops out just where the side panel gets clipped on the right hand side.

Can't see anything unless you go looking for it :thumb

Starcom1 fits nicely on the handbook clip at the base of the tank ... with the well at the bottom of the toolkit holder serving to hold the extra cabling because I fitted a frame mount kit to make the headset plugs and an audio jack available on the left side of the bike.

Wasn't sure how much space there would be under the tank void as mine is an ABS bike ... might have a look around under there tomorrow when the tank is off.

Got an Active 7 fitted under the rear seat unit, well out of the way.

I keep my MP3 player in a small camera bag attached with velcro to the handlebars, wire runs under the panels. Mobile could be housed the same way.

Not a bad idea, although just been reading up on the new Bluetooth enabled 2820. This would act as a hub and allow a wire free set up. It’s bound to be mega money!

Thanks Guys, that gives me the start i needed ..... will get stuck in and report back!
