Autoswitch to control music?

Been looking for something that will enable me to turn off the ipod going through the Autocom- for that occasion when someone speaks to you whilst you're on your bike...At the moment it means disconnecting your helmet or unzipping the handlebar bag to pause the ipod- inconvenient to say the least

On the old bike I wired in a two way switch to interrupt the power to the Autocom..I mounted this on the beak but it involved drilling . this time I'm trying to make it a bit neater

Could this be used to have a neat and unobtrusive on/off switch ( indicator cancel) for the music if I used it to interrupt the power to the Autocom?

I use one. Does what it says on the tin. No wires. I velcroed the controller onto the screen mount (06 GSA) in 2006 and it has sat there ever since. Ipod in tank bag or pocket.

But this would mean i couldn't charge at the same time i have a phone (needs constant charging) and have the same problem as Bryn, when touring i have helmet speakers but every time you stop at lights etc you cant talk to fellow riders etc. last trip i had a male/female connector (3.5mm) so pulled the plug instead of digging out pod still a blundy hassle must be a better way I'm considering a simple on/off toggle switch on the lead to Helmet but not sure what this would do to sound?

I use one of these when on the bike, and one of these for charging duties. I haven't actually tried it yet but the charger has a loop through ability so you should be able to connect both at the same time. You can also use the cable from the charger and plug it into your computer for charging your ipod. I don't know if it will do all the other stuff like synching your ipod. I'll have to have a play.

If you have HID lights, there is a 2 out of 3 chance that the harmonics from the ballast will interfere with the autoswitch.

This looks good as well- but more expensive I think

Either would work with my set up as I don't need to charge at the same time- I charge the ipod etc at the end of the day

I just picked up a sport command on ebay for £12, and one of those kensington adapters for £12 too. Sport command works a treat, I've used it velcro'd to the yoke of my last bike and I'm going to velcro it to the inside of the hand guard on the gs, an idea I got from someone on here.

For power I'm going to take the board out of the lighter plug and enclose it into a small project box for waterproofing and run a lead to a switched supply. The ipod lives under the seat with the autocom, so once wired in it'll stay charged up for long trips and just pipe through the autocom which auto mutes it when I'm talking or when the gps is giving directions.

Belkin sport command is a wireless remote control for the ipod that is waterproof. You plug a bit onto the bottom of the ipod and put it in your pocket/under seat etc and then there's a waterproof pad with buttons that you velcro somewhere you can get at it easily, such as inside the hand guard or on the tank etc.

This means you can control the ipod without actually having to get at it.

To charge it either charge at the end of the day or buy a unit that plugs onto the bottom of the ipod and allows you to charge while using the ipod's dock connector for the remote, as was linked in the post above which is made by kensington. As the ipod charges off the 5v that usb puts out, the 12v from a bike is too much and would damage it. The bit you plug into the cigarette lighter has a small circuit in it that reduces and regulates the voltage.

As I plan to wire this in to the bike, I don't want the cigarette lighter plug on the end, so I'll take the circuit out and encase it in a small plastic box that you can get from Maplin for about a pound. Then run a lead from that to a switched power source on the bike so that it's only on when the ignition is on.

Hope that makes a bit more sense. I haven't fitted it yet, as work's busy this week but when I get round to it I can post some photos.

IIRC someone hereabouts got one off ebay for less than the cost of the postage recently.
