I know it's been discussed before, but I can't find the info I seek: Where is the best place to take a signal feed from to trigger the relay coil when fitting an aux lamp relay. I know it should be the main beam supply, but I have the left side tank covers off and can't see which cable is it and where is the best place to tap in. Any pointers gratefully received as I'm off to Brittany early Saturday and figure I should get the bike back in one piece before I leave:augie

Live feed from the back of the main beam as close to the plug as you can get then drill a hole through the middle of the cover fit a grommet and run a wire through to the relay. Job done. By this I mean as close to the bulb connector.

I go onto the side light power then you can switch the aux lights on at any time.

But?

But Les, don't the side lights come on at power on and stay on at all times? How would you switch them?

p.s. When are you going to move to sunny Hampshire so that we can take advanatage of your legendary skill :)

There's no need to drill holes. There is a air vent either side of the back of the head lamp unit, looks like a little downward pointing rubber pipe.

Pull this out with a pair of pliers, feed cable through, then re-attach and you have your cable inside the unit with no drilling etc.

By using a switch on the handle bar. So wire from side light to switch, wire from switch to relay signal feed. Wire from Relay to earth, wire from aux lights to relay and fused wire from positive to relay. Easy.
I have a set to fit. Coopers Motorrad TW recommended the same feed. Easier. reach aparently. so only take me about three days:blast

Thanks Pathalogic

Being a lazy Tosser I took the relay coil feed from my Garmin supply lead which is plugged into the BM socket near the bars(also no damage/intrusion into the BM wiring). Great thought I lamps come on with ignition, I can live with that. Forgot that the supply is via the Canbus and stays on for about 25 sec's after shutdown:blast So flat battery looming. I now have a manual switch just behind the bars:rolleyes:

I didn't spot that, next time :augie

Thanks Dave I'll be out in the garage directly:)

Mark,

One other point if they are driving lamps take the feed off main beam if they are riding lights / fogs / dip beam helpers then take the feed off the dip beam.

Edit; didn't see that the job had been done :thumb
