Aux Socket / charger problem

2006 12GS.

Last May had Zumo and Autocom fitted by dealer.

When I come back from a ride I always plug the BMW charger into the Aux socket under the seat within the allotted time.

Because I was riding a lot during the summer charging wasn't an issue. Now I'm not riding as much the battery keeps going flat. Before the Autocom fitting the charger appeaared to work fine.

The charger is obviously not being recognised. I am going to take it back to the dealer on Saturday, but has anyone else had this problem?

I have plugged a portable tyre inflator into the socket which worked fine, so it outputs power OK.

Where does the zumo take it's power from?

I also have a 2006 GS, bmw charger and an autocom unit which was fitted by the dealer. I discovered dealer had connected autocom into auxiliary wiring - bmw charger did not like this one bit sensed autocom and went into error mode. In short I have now put a small waterproof on/off switch in wiring between autocom and auxiliary to overcome problem. Also I can plug charger in at anytime and it will work (not just within any allotted time)

When I had my 1200's I used a powerlet socket on the outside of the plug IYSWIM. So if I wanted to charge the battery, took the plug out, wanted the autocom, put the plug back in. All without messing with the wiring, and never had a flat battery etc etc problem

I've got an autocom wired to the back of the accessory socket and the charger still works.

Process - as supplied by nice people at Southport Super Bikes:

Leave ignition on (stop engine with kill switch)
Plug BMW charger in to accessory socket
Plug charger in to mains
Switch ignition off

p.s. mine's an 08 and the back of the socket is much better protected than the previous model. My 05 had the socket and wiring replaced under warranty because it went all green and rotted

Aux Socket / charger

Hi Guys, thanks for your responses.

Checked the back of the Aux socket where the power is taken from - not corroded. Took the bike into Southport Superbikes yesterday. Apparently its a problem that occurs on some but not all GS's that have an Autocom fitted. The Autocom upsets the 'the system' and doesn't allow the charger to be recognised. So as detailed in one of your responses the dealer fitted a switch to turn off the Autocom before charging - now works fine.
