Just received a 'Banner' 30Amp-hr battery from Moto**** today without any acid in- fair enough, they told me beforehand that they could not send it complete with acid. Sure, no problemo, I always get the acid from Trenholmes in the village and then stick it in the battery.

It arrived this morning. Oh, bugger, Trenholmes closed down a couple of months ago. Another local garage now tells me that they are not permitted to sell battery acid any longer because of sodding Health & Safety.

Is this true, is there any point wasting more time asking around? One garage told me I could just use the acid from the old duff battery if it wasn't dirty and then give it a good charge. Hmm, sounds dodgy to me.

Any suggestions?

did the same last year,i took my battery to local motorist discount shop they did mine for cash give it a try, happy hunting.

DO NOT attempt or even think about draining a battery and re-using the electrolyte.

Thinking of somewhere to obtain some fresh electrolyte should have taken less time than logging on to the site and posting your Thread........think along the lines of wherever locally sells batteries, cars, motorcycles,or automotive accessories.

Tarka, I already had asked locally, nobody has it locally now and was told by one guy that it was now against the "Health & Safety" crap. My local car discount shop can get me some by Wednesday, hence the desperation. Been nursing my wife for the last six weeks, and by now I NEED to ride my bike!!

Fair enough, I'll keep on looking.

By 'locally' I didn`t just mean within five minutes down the road....

I know there are a fair few remote locations in North Wales, and I appreciate the restriction imposed via your domestic situation, but haven`t you tried the bike dealers such as Woods and ABG (or whatever other one is closer ) ??

There`s got to be somewhere not too far away....

As I found in the Scottish Highlands when a mate's CX500 battery died, lawnmower shops are good sources of batteries. They can usually get Yuasa batteries next day and will probably have plenty of acid in stock.

IMV, the shop that JR went to for acid is just being childish because he didn't order the battery from them.

For future reference, some firms send batteries by courier together with acid. It's only Royal Snail that are scared of acid. http://www.motorbikebatteries.co.uk/ are one. Excellent service too. They stock Westco AGM which are supposedly a good alternative to the Hawker Odyssey.

Result!

Got some eventually from Bangor, 30 mls away. They did say that a lot of stockists don't bother any more because thay now need a licence to sell it. Also, they said they couldn't sell it separately to me, they had to actually put it in the battery for me. :nenau

Never mind, I hope it's fine tomorrow :thumb

Result :thumb

Glad you`re sorted now.......hope tomorrow is a good day for you :beerjug:

This is weird.

Te last 3 batteries I've bough online all came with a sealed acid loading device ready to insert into each of the individual cells. The cardboard container had battery, acid, and set of instructions about how to load it.

I thought they all came that way.

I'll need to be careful in future.

electrolyte

I've just received a Yuasa battery from MDS and face the same problem. Halfords, and 2 local motorists stores, cannot help me find electrolyte.

Where next?

batteries

Gel batteries have a lot going for them!!!.
