There was discussion recently about the SPECS cameras on the A9....2 of them, north of Slochd and at the Moy turn are definitely backscuttlers to take pix of rear no plate. They are the only ones I spotted between Pitlochry and Inverness....that doesn't...mean to say they are not there, but I didn't see them...the rest only get the front plate.
Writing this in Tescos I/ness waiting for the snow to stop so I can get home!

I'm glad I postponed my trip to Scotland.... Roll on summer...

Great to see so many European bikers in Scotland over the past few weeks enjoying fantastic weather. Last year we had to wait until mid-May for the good spell, which lasted for the rest of the year. Something strange going on.

GW, glad that you through the snow and safe. Did the same route the weekend of 18/19 Apr. AFAIK, all the cameras on the A9 stretch are front plate cameras. There are some places where, due to the width of the road, cameras for both lanes are mounted on the same pole ... but aligned to read the front plates.

Press and Journal Oct'14..

'One issue causing confusion is whether the cameras will be able to read the number plates of motorbikes.

It was understood that the cameras would face oncoming traffic and use automatic number plate recognition software to record the time that vehicles pass.

Motorcycles have registration plates on the rear.

But Transport Scotland said that bikes will not escape as some cameras have been turned around to be able to read plates of traffic heading away.

One such spot is south of Inverness, near Tomatin.

Mike Burns, who leads the A9 Average Speed Cameras are not the Answer group, said: “Motorbikes can be caught. They should not be lulled into a false sense of security.”'

The very ones....
