AVG will catch you out in a few months, I suspect ....................

I've tried something similar in the past, but with AVG offering 3 machine-coverage for 2 years for a pretty good price - I go down the official route now.

The fee version ia all that you need
Why do they do it for free?
What are they getting from this ?

They get a couple of things, the first is "testing", although the software is commercial quality the more people using it the more any problems are discovered early.
The second is early sight of new virus/malware, the sooner they know about it the sooner they can release signature files for it. And if they are the first to release signatures they get they kudos.....
