Just bought a Logitech Webcam for my Skype activities, when downloading the software it instructs me to disable the antivirus and spyware software. I have the AVG paid for version, bit nervous about the disabling of these elements, and frankly not sure how to do it anyway. Anyone tell me if it is:

a) really necessary
b) risky to do it
c) how to do it if I decide to.

Appreciate any advice before I go bumbling ahead and screwing things up:o

It's unlikely that you'll need to with AVG John.....let's put it this way, I wouldn't bother if it were me doing it.

Norton is a different kettle of fish...it really doesn't like things messing around installing drivers etc, so it used to cause problems....AVG doesn't seem to though.

Try installing with it as is....if it fails, you can disable it and try again..you're not going to hurt anything by trying.

For the record though, right click on the AVG icon in the toolbar at the bottom right of the screen, and you should get an option to 'quit avg control centre'....that'll do it ;)

PS If you do though, as yours is a combined firewall and AVG, I'd be inclined to physically turn off or pull the plug on your modem before disabling AVG ;)

PS to start it again, go to start>programmes and find AVG control centre, or just reboot and it'll start up again automatically :thumb

Thanks Bill, didn't want to bother you again with another question on Skype. Going to give it a try without disabling then.

Cheers,

John
