I've put some new avon trail riders on a couple of months back. Up until recently they've been good but lately I've notice a shimmy between 30 and 60 mph. I've check all the spoke and the wheel looks true. It's not lost any balance weights. I have noticed that the leading edge of the tread blocks have rounded off.
Does anyone know what may be causing the shimmy? It's getting quite physically tiring riding the bike. 2012 GSA, btw.
Thanks

I'm not aware of mine rounding off, they must have c 2500 miles on them now, maybe more and not the slightest sign of a shimmy. I run mine at 36F 42R

Running mine at the same pressures. Will check when I get home that the guys put them on the right way round - i'm sure they did.

There is a definate round off at the front of the tread block and the back of the block is still very much 'square'

All bikes wiggle the handlebars at their resonant speed. Harley's will be a around 20mph. Sports bikes around 60. If that wiggle isn't completely damped out by simply holding the bars, you probably have a worn head bearing. A "normal" bike with tele forks is more prone to the problem than a Telelever BMW but the issue is always there. My head bearing was gummy at 50K miles. The new one is stuffed full of moly grease so might last a bit longer.

Check for free play fore/aft at the front wheel (swing arm ball joint). If that's ok, the steering top yoke is quite easy to remove so bearing grumble is easy to check for.

The yoke should be heated to 100C before the bearing will drop out/in. The little ball knuckles at either end are held with wire circlips and all threads are thread locked needing heat.
