Made a short stop on the way to work today (about 2 mins) When i returned the bike would not start, it gave the 'AWS' warning on the control panel which i understand means the bike does not recognise the key and prevents the starter motor from operating.
Called the breakdown truck but got it started about 40mins later just before the recovery arrived. I foolishly thought the problem had gone away and switched the ignition off again whilst i cancelled the assistance, yes you guessed it i still had the problem. A pattern was starting to emerge which even i with no mechanical knowlege began to grasp. I went for a coffee came back 1/2 an hour later and it started, drove to Battersea BMW where the imobiliser was diagnosed as the problem and awaits replacement, hopefully by tomorrow. The only electronic event which i wondered may have been a factor was the battery software update i had about 2 weeks ago...only a theory. Anyone out there got any thoughts or had similar incident or is this a one off?
