Morning all.
I have a 2012 GSA which I had not used for a couple of weeks. 35k on the clock and great overall condition.
Had the tank side panels off to change them for newer ones 2 days ago. I mention this but think it is likely totally unrelated!
Went to take the bike to work yesterday, started fine and got about 2 miles from home when it cut out as I was slowing for a junction.
It was reluctant to start, but got it going. It did it again twice so I limped it home and swapped onto the old Divvy900.
Trying to work out what the issue could be. Don't have access to GS911 or MotoScan.
Before I invest in one of these, are there any ideas or suggestions as to what could be the problem?
When I started it last night in the garage it again it was fine from cold but once it started to warm up it was hunting on the revs, coughing a bit, and cutting out. Again it restarted without drama. Exhaust looked a bit smoky (hadn't noticed that in the morning, but was trying to get to work) and to me it smelt like fuel in the exhaust - unsure though if that was a warm up cycle effect or a possible issue?
Anyway, open to suggestions from anyone who may have experienced similar issues as to how they resolved?
my head is saying TPS or coils as a start point....
Thanks all - appreciate the support.
Eric

Probably not this, but it's an easy check and something you can then discount - open the fuel filler cap and see whether it runs without cutting out.

A partially blocked vent could cause the symptoms you describe (not the unburnt fuel smell, but as you say that might be unrelated).

Dislodged throttle cables in the throttle bodies when you removed and replaced the side panels? - check the cables are seated correctly.

Throttle cable seating as mentioned

TPS as you thought

Coils

There is a check for coils on here do a search

TPS if you search you can find a how to strip & clean guide

Welcome aboard

Could be any of the above and sounds similar to what I recently experienced on the same year same model bike. Mine turned out to be the TPS but if you do change it make sure you get a genuine BMW one as the pattern ones are shit and cant be tightened up (ask me how I know!).
