can anybody tell me the best time to arrive at the port, is early better ,can you board already or do you have to wait hours before embarking?
Also cabin booked, is that a shared cabin as with 1 bunk bed??
Any good hotels partic good bike parking an hour or Two from the port??

Which way you going ?
Potes in the middle of the Picos is only 90 minutes from Santander.
We normally get to Plymouth at about 1300 and have lunch at Pier One ,with bike park just above it.
Then saunter down around 1500. Wait time might be 30 minutes or so before boarding.
Cabins aren’t shared unless you are with mates and only book one.

No Plan Arsenal…so far…going into the Picos, my 1st time…stay few days then head for Pyrenees….

My point was, you asked for a hotel 1 to 2 hours from Picos.
But the Picos is only 90 minutes away via motorway or 2 hrs 20 the back way.

If you want to stop before that, I can recommend San Vicente de la Barquera. We’ve stayed here.
View from the hotel terrace .

I have sent you a message but

I am on that ferry with a couple of mates so if you keep your eyes peeled for a Black Ducati Streetfighter a KTM 1290 SDR and a BMW XR ....

We are heading to the parador at Fuente De which is more than a couple of hours as we take the nice roads but you are welcome to Tag along if it helps and you wish to - and stop where you like or book the same hotel ( if they have capacity) as it is quite nice
From there we are meandering down into Portugal via the PArador at Cangas de Narcea and again again you are welcome to tag on or not its up to you

As for the ferry at Plymouth as long as you get there before the latest time to check in its fine as you will be waiting around any way as boarding can often be a painful process as bikes dont get much in the way of priority on that route

As for cabin if you have booked one then its all yours and at worst i can see you in the bar where i will allow you to by me a beer

Drop him off at the Hotel Del Oso as you ride past.
Then again, it’ll be full.

As Arsey says, depends which direction you are heading into the Picos. Cangas de Onis in the NW corner is only 90 mins away via the motorway. Plenty of hotels there.
I'll be heading to Santander on 25 Sept. Last year the ferry was delayed and the 2pm arrival was 6pm. I had to abandon my ride through the hills and dash down the motorway to the Parador at Argomaniz (recommended if on the way to the Pyrenees). Got there at dusk.

This year, I heading west to Ponferrada for a few days so my first night will be on the coast at Llanes. I've used one of my "free nights" from my hotels.com app to have a night in Hotel Montemar. It has availability but at £186 a night for Mon 28 Aug, not the circa £50 I have for 24 Sept (booked 6 months ago)

I'll make sure to test a few as I wander from the Hotel Plaza Ponferrada into the city centre. Although, I am more interested in the gazillion fantastic roads that surround the place.

I tried to find that but google has never heard of it and I did not see it scanning a map - presumably in the Valencia region. After Ponferrada, I'm heading to Parador Avila for a few nights as not been that side of Madrid before. Gredos mountains look inviting. Then back up towards Santander via Parador Lerma and a former monastery in Aguilar de Campoo. Last night by a beach in Santander for a lunchtime ferry.

they have funny names but its the road that heads south from Ponferada and goes through Truchas which would be a easy way to find it

ah, it seems to be called LE192/21 as it leaves Ponferrada and changes to CV192/21

yes, it's in one of the potential loops I will do on the daytrip from Ponferrada - so far have 2 options, one north, one south depending on the weather
https://goo.gl/maps/1aLEhncXPjB1KcSs5 goes up to Cangas del Narcea and this shorter one down to Truchas https://goo.gl/maps/6ShddbxoJbD8gzLo9

4 of us heading that way on 27th sept.keep a look out for.1gsa,1 africa twin,1 vfr 1200 and a tenere 12.

We normally use one of the lowland Paradors, just in case the weather is inclement at altitude, but which depends entirely on arrival time at Santander.

Santillana del Mar is nice enough, but something of a tourist trap, so Cangas de Onis would be my preference.

Morning guys, had such a busy yesterday, could reply to anybody.
Many a thanks for all the great advice, I will have a good look,
pretty sure I will find a nice place.
