I was having few problems opening my B*W panniers on my 1150GS the other day - key was a bit sticky. They DID open in the end though.

Turned out that I was using the key from my F650GS!!!!!

So - the question is: Do all B*W keys open all B*W panniers or ignitions come to that? If so - be careful who you go touring with!

Any key?

Surely the lock doesn't know what bike is attached to? In that case any key as long as it fits the lock will open it? And there is a finite number of options for how a key / lock is configured, especially if a car / bike / safe etc manufacturer uses the same basic design?

At least if you go touring with someone who has the same key and you loose yours they may have a spare.:D

the locks are usually matched to the bike's ignition key using a lock kit supplied by BMW.

Your keys must be fairly similar.

I try not to go touring with BMW riding thieves (hence no dealer organised tours...)

If you've had the locks coded to your key, it opens up countless other combinations of keys that will open your locks..
