The S1000R is a fantastic bike. It does 3 things which the GS doesn't. It's lightweight, looks 'sexy' when you open the garage door and goes like stink. Overall, it's fantastic, but for me, it didn't offer the 'one bike solution' that a GS does. I would LOVE to have one and a GS (as well as a few classics) but space, time and money are not completely infinite. The acceleration and smoothness of the S1000R is incredible / addictive.
:-)

All horses for courses but I found myself stuck on a s1r for two hours after losing my way on a test drive, and I simply couldn't wait to get off it. I'm only 5 10 (though admittedly long legged), and it looked and felt like a small bike (indeed, I felt almost sheepish when parked up alongside a XR at a services stop, and noticed how people would look at the XR but not give the s1r a second look). The engine was frantic, which along with the exhaust note gave the impression of the bike being quicker than it was, and after the two Hours my wrists were dropping off and my bum was on fire.

I then stepped onto a r12r - it was like coming home, naked style: comfortable, solid, smooth(er than a GS), better note, and had a really good turn of speed (as all nakeds feel).

Hope that wasn't anything to do with my rambling, opinionate #ollocks. :rob

Hi Terry. After switching bike several times this year, I guess the best thing I could advise is (i) always take an extended test drive, (ii) approach and appreciate each bike on its on merits (avoid comparisons with apples and oranges!) and (iii) if it doesn't work out - change again! Crucial to be happy with your bike. :-) The S1000R is a fantastic piece of kit and sometimes it's great to have a complete change - depending on what you plan to do with the bike. I'm 5 ft 10 and I found the footrests in an 'ok' position (no knee pain) and the bike is seriously fast! :-)

The OEM 'comfort' seat, OEM taller screen, a set of bar risers and the OEM soft luggage make it perfectly tour-able in my view - and make a big difference. I will be selling these one month old accessories half price shortly - as I part exchanged my S1000 'stock' yesterday and would like to re-coup part of the £700 spend on those items. Enjoy the new bike dude! :-)

LBJ.

No mate I've had a few GSs and fancy a change most of my mates have naked bikes, so just joining in really. I saw the new shape S and really like it, so just thought why not.

cool, I hope it works out well; and, tbh, some time in the future I may look to pick up a cheap xr to use for sunday blasts, as a second bike. I'm too old for the s1r shape!
