Just an update...
Stumbled across people mentioning a cat code plug mod brought to us by Steptoe. I though why not, nothing to lose. Well what a difference! Closing the throttle is now smooth as butter and the excess fuelling causing the surge at around 1900rpm is all but gone. Better throttle response and pick up too! Winner

It may remain that way but the Motronic adaptation routines may alter how your bike runs over time. Let us know how it's doing after a few tankfuls of fuel.
FYI, the 30-87a plug, according to the GS-911 data and the code in the ROM inside the Motronic, is for R1150GS Japan. That may alter the spark timing enough to change overrun.
