So since the other day, my 1150GS has been backfiring more that usual and I also noticed that there's a bit of reluctancy under heavy acceleration.

It also took a good while to start this morning. tried to run over, but then the next few times I could only hear the starter motor spinning - it didn;t want to fire at all

Eventually it started, but didn't sound healthy. Eventually was running. I took it once round the block, but the backfiring/acceleration issues where still there so I went back home and took the Buell today!

Sounds/feels like both cylinders are firing, but maybe it's one of the lower spark plugs that fire under heavy acceleration that are gone?

I've had the hesitant acceleration before - changed the spark plugs and all fine, but I'm not sure I was accompanied by more-than-usual backfiring?

It's going up to Steptoe for a service on Tuesday anyway but for once I'd like to drop it off 'healthy' :D

Any thoughts?

Seeing as it sounds like a twin spark, might be work checking the stick coil as it will only take a few minutes.

Hope you fix it but I'm sure that will Steptoe lay his healing hands on it if not!

It's a dodgy stick coil.

Replaced all sparks, disconnected the 'good' coil and it wouldn't start on the bad one.

Swapped coils and sides to double check

That's £70 on top of my next service then :blast

Stick coils

Gabriel i've got a couple of old stick coils in the garage that i changed on mine. One of em is knackered one is good but i dont know which, i've sold my gs so you can have them if you want to come and collect them, i'm in whitstable kent.

Hey matey - that's a very kind offer, but not sure when I'd be able to get down to you - it's a bit of a trek and I'm short on spare time.

Happy to pay you some cash for them if you're happy to send them?
