BACKING UP PHONES- IDIOTS GUIDE NEEDED

Hi, currently neither myself, wife or daughter has back ups enabled automatically, currently we all have android phones Samsung Galaxy, and every 12 months I copy all photos and videos from the memory cards in each phone to my PC,
Can someone advise best way to arrange automatic back ups without incurring any costs ? currently my phone has 11gb of video/Photos, wifes around 60gb and daughter is over 100gb,
thanks in advance for any help, I expect even an auto back up from daughters phone will take some time
 
For €1.99 a month a get a Google One account......which gives me 1TB of Google storage.

Just set the Google account to back up however often you want......
Set the camera app to back up photos immediately too Google photos.

It's well worth it........it even remembers all the Bluetooth and WiFi connections so changing phones is painless.

I know you asked for a zero cost solution......but it really is fantastic value.

There may even be a family package available??


I also find going into my Gmail account once a year and purging it of non important stuff frees up GB's of storage back into your Google account.

I see it says Google one can take 24hrs to back up, is this just first time or is it always so lengthy ?

Wasn't aware of that.......I've never seen anything take 24hrs to back up.......on any platform.
 
And in the interest of..... "I'm a feckin numpty"

It's €1.99 a month for 100gb of storage

I've been backing up most of the day and only 4gb has backed up, each time I check it seems to have stopped ? I'm using Google one and only installed it today.
 
I've kinda always had Google.....so I don't remember doing the initial big backup.

Is your WiFi fast?
 
The first backup will take forever because the full 6 50 or 100 Gb needs uploading

The other way is to install the Samsung software on your pc and do an update on a regular basis (needs a çable connection)
 
ok so left phone charging last night with 6gb backed up, phone automatically backs up once its been idle and charging for 2hours, got up this morning and shows 11gb backed up with a finish time of 04.00.
one question, does the phone need to be left switched on for backup to happen, getting conflicting advice on this, ive a trial period of 1month and if im happy enough with it i will share data with the wife and set her phone up.
