Did I read somewhere on here - or did I imagine it? - that there are/were some major roadworks on the tunnel road into/through Baden-Baden?

I've tried Searching but can't seem to find anything :nenau

I'd like to find out where any detour is routed.

TIA

:beerjug:

The Michaelstunnel, which is the start of the B500 is currently closed and will be closed for the remainder of this year. There is a diversion that runs South of the tunnel, past the golf club, then joins the main road shortly before the other end of the tunnel. It's well signposted - from the North/Baden-Baden, follow the diversion signs for B500/Freudenstadt. If coming into Baden-Baden from the South, follow the A5 Autobahn diversion signs.

Hope this helps! :thumb2

I had fun there last year, ended up right in the centre of town, Gps was obviously no good as it was directing me towards the tunnel, got round just on old fashioned instinct (guesswork) in the end, lots of backroads, then suddenly there was the 500:)

I think I had a similar detour in 2009 - no roadworks, but GPS was playing up!

Ended up stopping for a cup of tea and a slice of cake at a cafe in a row of cafes just opposite a small park with a water feature - it overlooked some kind of twin-tower structure. Possibly a church or town hall?? :nenau

I'm blowed if I can find it on the maps now!

Could well be either the Friedrichsbad or Caracalla Thermen - these are both in the Spa area.

If you're heading out this way, please let me know :beerjug:

See the dates & places in this section of the forum - http://www.ukgser.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=476 as we will be in your neck of the woods on a few days on the way to/from the Dolomites. We are stopping for 2 nights in Tuttlingen, for example.

Acouple of weeks ago we joined the B500 north of Baden Baden heading to Freudenstadt and were diverted way off the B500 onto some decent roads without coming back to the B500. Good roads, but the B500 will go on the list for a trip in the future.

Nah - wasn't there :( I'll keep looking...

We'll be riding through B-B on the morning of 19 June, as wessie indicated. Not sure what time - maybe 10ish??

If I find the café I mentioned, I'll let you know and maybe meet there for a coffee? Unless you know a better place?

This one was on a kind of a High Street with parking for bikes, next to a kind of a small park.

Anyhoo, maybe meet you there.

Agree - I went wandering alone and got into a 'race' with 2 local herrs on gixxer thous. Ended up turning off the B500 and onto some L roads, as I got carried away  and found some really good meadering roads and picturesque villages, and a typical German Beerkeller (sp) at the top of a mountain. Mein host had the obligatory mullet...

I found some kind of sect/cult HQ / church. Which was nice...:augie

Wish I'd keep the GPS tracks

That sounds like Augustaplatz:

Sounds like a plan - let's get in touch nearer the time.

I know it's too late for you joybringer but for the rest or others who want to pass Baden-Baden:
Roadwork is finished, Michaelstunnel was reopened a couple of days ago.
