Now firstly, apologies if this has been covered before, but please bear with me. Has anyone used the 'GS' or/and the 'City' Bags Connection/SW Motech quick lock tank bags on their GS? I'm kind of stuck what to choose between the two. I like the idea of the room in the 'GS', but not sure how high it would sit when it's expanded. The issue I potentially have with the 'City' version is would I wish I had more room in it & had gone for the 'GS'

Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts/impressions of either bag please? Positives & negatives welcomed fellas! If anyone has any pictures of either on their 1200 it would be really helpful to see aswell please!

Cheers :beerjug:

I have one in the for sale section now. The bag is great and the locking system is very quick, easy to use and secure. The only downside is it has a separate waterproof cover whereas the BMW one is waterproof without a cover. I think mine is the GS version and I found it more than adequate, didn't ever find the need to expand it other than to see what it was like. If your Sat nav is mounted on your handlebars it may block our view when expanded. Of course every time you give full left lock it blows the horn, like all tank bags!

Didn't use GS bag expanded either, although did use the additional map pocket

I now have it fitted onto my Explorer

Thanks for the replies fellas, and the pics :) You've both raised one of my issues.....could I 'get away' with spending £28 (ish) less on the City version, and expand it when necessary or go for the GS version, and possibly not expand it at all. I have panniers & topbox (vario's), but I also have a wife who likes to take a fair amount with us :)

The other thing I've been told a couple of times now by retailers, is for my bike (2011 1200), I would ideally use the 'EVO' version of the tank ring, which would also require the 'EVO' version of the bag too. Apparantly the tank ring is specifically designed for the 2010 (I think) onwards bikes :nenau

How much do you want for yours llotse? :)

I am asking £145 for the Evo bag and Tankring combined. Not seen much use and still in mint condition.

I'm in USA. I use two of the Bags Connection tnk bags. Had BMW and yes it is waterproof, but hated the way it comes off/on. Too much trouble. BC is great and does not touch the paint.

I have both the Engage for day to day, and the BIG GS for trips.

Great bags..!

I have the 'City' bag on my 2006 GSA.

Plenty of room for stuff including a spare visor, as the front of the bag is curved which allows the visor to sit inside snugly.

The only thing I don't like is the cheap looking rain cover which flaps around in the wind. I now use a small bungee round it which helps a bit.

I use the City bag on my XR and its very good
Big enough for what i need on days out etc etc easy on and off well worth it IMO

Rubbish

I had the lager bag on my WC for a foreign trip.
On the first day the bag came off the tank ring
and then it did it again
and again
etc
until I zip tied it on to a pannier.

The BMW bag on my last bike never fell off, nor funnily enough, on this one either.

Clearly a duff one or user error :augie

2 years now and never had an issue with mine on 2 different bikes ;)

Two pics here of the City bag.
Both times its expanded on a trip and one has the map picket attached too.

It's the evo and works great, had it in my tiger 800 since 2012 also and done a good few trips.

I thought the Gs was just too big, and I'm even considering getting a daypack one for normal day trips, reckon it will hold my waterproof jacket/pants, sunglasses, wallet etc no problem.

It looks like the mounting bracket on the base of the bag needs repositioning to move the bag forwards.

I found the City Bag a little bit big for day trips and a little bit small for touring, so I sold it and bought a GS Bag and the 5-9 litre Daypack for daytripping. It's just big enough for my phone, wallet, sunglasses and camera etc.

It's perfect, doesn't touch me, doesn't touch the paint, doesn't obscure the instruments, and doesn't touch the bars or controls on full lock.
