Could anybody please tell what the fuzz is with the Bagster
tank covers???

Are they just cosmetical stuff or they serve any functional purpose?

There's is a group buy promotion going on in advrider forums and wanted to know if I´m missing something usefull.

Personally i've been using bagster tank covers for several years, IMHO they protect your paintwork, give additional grip for your knees(as do other alternatives) and additionally they allow a Bagster tank bag to be fitted(various capacities) or alternatively allow secure fastening of other home made or otherwise sold luggage to be fitted right in front of you, oh, and they give you a nice little mount for a map pocket, or whatever else you want to mount right under your nose.

iagree have had baglux on last 4 bikes wouldnt be without it

Thank you guys!

Thank you for your answers!

Sure they look nice, however none of the reason mentioned above (except for protecting the paintwork), works for me. So, I guess I´ll pass on.

Mane

on the other hand....

The service manager at SLM is totally against them saying that you get grit under them and they scratch the paintwork.... I quite liked mine.........
till it got burnt when some toerag set fire to my bike cover!

I've used them for teh past 5 years on various bikes, never had a problem with grit scraching the paintwork.

Bagster Tank cover

The main advantage is that a tank bag can be clipped on or removed (i.e. for a fill up) in seconds. I had one on an R1100R and when I sold it the tank paintwork was like new. Brian

Introducing "The Gimp"

From the AdvRider group buy...looks good. I trimmed and sealed the straps as they were too long but other than that, I'm happy with the cover.

I put one on my old Honda CBR600, as the tank paint was like cream cheese. It did a cracking job of protecting the paint and as everybody else has said you can mount various things on it, it keeps knees warmer + gives more grip.

I've just ordered one for my 12

What bag do you use with the cover?

Andy

I agree with all the plue points, however the minus point that really pisses me off is that the horn button hits the bag when doing slow left hand turns, nearly always in a supermarket car park:mad:

A cautionary tale folks regarding Baglux covers. My 1200GS came with one fitted by the previous owner. I had some warranty work done by my local dealer this week (who shall remain nameless) and they didn't do a very good job of replacing the tank cover, maybe I should have provided the fitting guide for them. On a long ride yesterday the right hand tank side cover came adrift at motorway speeds and swung back onto my leg, damaging the RH alloy cosmetic tank side cover and the steel bracket beneath for the rear two dzus fasteners. Luckily the dealer has sorted it for me by adding some holes inside the tank side cover and adding some cable ties to secure it and prevent the bayonet securing clips on the lower leading edge from coming undone again. I notice mine is fitted differently to the one shown above, so I shall be getting the fitting guide out and re-fixing it myself today.

Incidentally, the dealer has done some recall work for fuel system O rings, and loaded the latest fuel map from BMW. She really flies now, and is much smoother. Contact your local dealer for details !!
