To save my wife's :rose back (and mine), I installed a backrest from Bakup USA . Purchased it from Rocky Mayers for $285 ($345 direct from Bakup).

It certainly looks better than some of the other options for backrests and it's very well put together. Interestingly, Bakup are located just up the road in Luling, Louisiana.

Yup, just remove four bolts and the backrest lifts away. The Schuberth, Hmmm, I don't like it...too heavy and very noisey.

Anyone got the BM version for the top box?

Yes
Not so sure

The torquey acceleration of this beast does not help weak backs for pillion passengers ! We riders sometimes do not appreciate how fast we are accelerating and it is only when we look in our rear view mirrors and see everything left behind that we can understand this. Pillion passengers suffer as a result of this acceleration.

I have always been terrified of falling backwards as a pillion and my wife likes the security of the top box behind her, but says that even with the BWM rear cushion (£45) she gets a little bruised. Works best with the top box 'expanded/raised' higher so as to support at a higher position. Better still would be to wear a full back protector jacket together with the back rest and this would still work out cheaper than the example in this thread!

(I have a back protector but she will not wear it, so she must be reasonably happy:D )

However, the thread example looks more padded !
