Out with Rob and Mechanic on Sunday.

They had a balancer pipe between the vacuum take off nipples.

Rob said it helps running, does it do this by equalising the pressure as it goes into the injectors, hence evening uo the mix?

I would have asked on the day, but it took me this long to process the idea.

Cheers

This is what's supposed to happen.

Jamie, the connecting pipe on my GS is there to balance out the inlet pulses at low engine revs. This is not a new idea as many older bikes, such as Triumph (pre-Bloor types) Kawasaki twins and some others had similar arrangements fitted/installed.

On the boxer engine the vac. take-off stubs could really be slightly larger, to give a much better effect upon idle stabilisation, however mine will remain as standard until the warranty period has expired.

Assuming that everything else is set-up correctly, this mod should produce an even smoother idle and better low down throttle response especially when pulling away from standstill or rolling traffic. I emphasise that this mod will have little noticeable effect once the throttles are more than a quarter open, mainly due to the fact that the vac. pipe stub holes are too small. With larger bore stubs and connecting pipe the effect would be noticeable upto about half throttle.

Try just connecting both vac take offs together with a length of suitable hose and see if there is any noticeable improvement. Takes about 5 mins to fit and probably half that to wipe it off if you don't think there's any advantage.:tigger

I tried it after reading a similar article somewhere. Did not notice any difference at all
