Had ball joint on my 2008 1200GS replaced last year as old one sloppy and rubber boot torn. Replaced by a good independent BMW mechanic. New one rides really well.

Since last week have noticed soft clicking sound when steering is turned to steering stop. Sounds like a very small ratchet. I can see the rubber boot moving slightly - it turns a little in same direciton as steering stop, then turns back as steering turned back.

Have tried a bit of silicone lube on it but no real change. Don't want to lather it in spray as the rubber boot holds in grease for the joint.

Anyone come across this? Eay fix? Faulty part or installation? Any help much appreciated. Cheers

Thanks. I already did that as I wrote above. Sprayed top and bottom of boot at retaining clips while moving steering back and forth. Has not stopped the clicking. Am not keen to absolutely lather it in spray that may dislodge grease inside boot as that may make things worse. Did you have in mind what I already did, or what I am not keen to do?
