BANG! Blue smoke, no power, bike dead. Waiting for BMW recovery.

Bet this has just sold a load more BMW Extended Warranty’s, or not? How can it not cover valves that is just plain crazy – give em hell!

in usa but on phone to Bahnstormer to point out that valves ARE covered.

Update: Yep, Bahnstormer reckon its covered too but the insured warranty people are dragging their heels because its so much work. Ah, well I shall have to go and buy some add ons for the bike over her in the US to cheer me up.

Did they tell you the valves weren't covered then? :nenau

I'm curious, if you don't mind me asking how much does an extended warranty cost?

Its £360 for a year with no excess, just took it out for mine as its two years old in September

I'd guess that if you were doing 70 mph in 6th and selected first, and let the clutch out the rev limiter wouldn't help much :(

lol... you do have a point, but I think that would probably go down as either stupidity or wantant distruction and would probably be coupled with on hell of a skid and possibly a tank slapper to boot...

all of the above aside... thats what the rev limiter is for... to avoid over reving...

How are you going to do that to something fitted with a sequential gearbox?

I once put a TVR Tuscan into 1st from 2nd rather than 3rd at 60mph and that made the dashboard light up like Blackpool illuminations :augie

Good job it wasn't mine :bounce1

Clutch in, five quick taps down, clutch out.

Although, of course, TVRs will also happily light up all the warnings if you start them, stop them, drive them normally, or open the doors...

Update....its fixed but.....

Hurrah, repaired under warranty but I now have a dilema.

The exhaust was trashed by all the oil going through it so Bahnstormer are offering a nearly new one from a demo bike. Not sure I should accept it as surely I should get a new one!

They are also offering free fitting of an aftermarket exhaust. Worth doing? Should I push to get a serviceable original exhaust too? (for resale of bike)

Cheers

Glad to hear you are nearly sorted.

Your bike is covered by the warranty. Your engine went pop, and that was covered by the warranty. Therefore, damage caused by the engine going pop should also be covered under the warranty. So no, you should not feel obliged to accept any used parts in any part of your bike repair.

Are they going to sell the demo bike without an exhaust, or do they want to put a nice new one on it before they sell it (courtesy of your warranty)? :nenau

Keep your old end can and get them to throw a set of Remus headers on it and call it quits :D It`ll only be the cat thats u/s

Bahnstormer BS

Rang them just now and apparently the "nearly new" ones were just for the road test. Wonder if they would have bothered to tell me that and tried to pull a fast one if I hadn't of rung up? New ones on order (I think it is just the header pipes and cat).

Soooooo looking forward to getting home from USA to try it all out.....probably going to have to run it in again though (for 20,000 miles like last time!).

I'll bet that the demo bike was sold with customer specified Remus headers (or similar) and the customer didn't want the originals.

Gipsymagpie - treat yourself to a set of Remus headers (or Staintune or other) and just pay the difference...
