bang, crunch crunch crunch....

Same happened to me.

JONYBOY

Precisely the same happened to me a month ago. Took it to Bahnstormer who were great. Luckily extended my warranty the week before. 300 well spent (especially as clutch failed 2 days before!). Anyway:

Top tip is to make sure they check the exhaust as oil has almost certainly contaminated the hell out of the cat (I have new headers fitted as part of repair (and new silencer I think)). Right side of engine fully replaced. I have been away for a month. Home Thursday morning to be reunited with the bike. BS have delivered it to my home while I was away...rode a Harley while I have been away and now desperate for some decent handling!!!

Well, very bad news,

went into vines today to take the higher bike back and well, shit.

apparently the valve that did expire was sucked into the cyclinder and promptly destroyed the cylinder, barrel and head...

bmw are still going to pay for the parts all i have to pay for is the stripping of the engine to see if any other damage has been caused, but bmw apparently have no cyclinder heads in stock for a 07 gs so i have a week long wait before the part is even made,
now as bmw have taken the loan bike back as it has to go to someone else for a few days i am now completely bikeless and well fecked off

anyone know of a decent hire company in the south east or surrey area?

or do you think that vines would take the bike as is as p/x for a new one? havnt asked yet but was an idea

well, the parts finally arrived for the bike last week and was told that i would have it by the weekend (26-27sep) but alas no phone call or anything from vines about the bike

called them this afternoon, im in nights so wanted to get some sleep, to be told that they have fixed the original problem but now they have found more parts that needed replacing and they have ordered the parts required but could take another week till they arrive,
didnt ask what else had gone wrong as is was still half asleep and too pissed off, now im really not happy

lost all confidence in the bike and bmw customer service for not telling me what was going on, apparently they found put last week that somehting else was wrong but didnt take the time to tell me,

think that when the gs is returnd to full health its going and ill look for somehting else

Out of interest, how old are the various bikes mentioned in this thread that BMW HAVE fixed when the valves let go ?

I've just been told that my full main dealer service history 04 GS is "outside of the age under which we would offer goodwill" and am looking at a fairly hefty bill for what appears to be quite a common fault

mine was an 07 with only 18500 miles on the clock
dunno what the cut off date is with bmw, but i think that they think that it is more acceptable for an 04 plate to go opposed to an 07, but could be very wrong....

yes!
finally got the bike back today, after a very unexpected call from the garage the bike was reasdy this afternoon

final bill?

£445.98

not bad for £2000 worth of parts replaced and fitted!

just gotta see now how reliable its going to be for now

but at the moment, im a very happy bunny!

im sure it will be fine mate:thumb2 you got to remember bmw have sold shitloads of the 1200s so the percentage of bikes going wrong will seem higher:comfort you just got unlucky:blast

oh how love my 1150:augie:augie:D:D:D

For fecks sake.....not again

yep, the bike is again poorly sick

went out to the garage today to find the oil that should have been inside the engine all over the floor and over the left hand side of the bike, must've not noticed last night in the dark

called vines and they came and collected the bike and gave me a a 650gs till monday

had it out with them re payment and they said that they will be paying as it is leaking where they have put the engine back together

so yes its a pain in the arse but at least its getting sorted

fecking 1200's , think ill be looking for an 1150 soon.........
