So on Sunday my rear brakes pack up. On Monday an angel has spares and sorts me out (still waiting for delivery from Nippy Norman for the replacements). Today my rear tyre was flat when I left work.

I found the hole and used the BMW kit to fix it. So now I guess I need to get a permanent repair. Does anyone know of a place that will do it in Edinburgh while I wait? Preferrably near to the city centre.

Disasters come in threes so I am waiting for my next one.

Most people treat the BMW kit repairs as permanent....especially if there's a load of life left in the tyre.

They only call it a temporary fix for legal arse covering reasons but you'll find many references to people who have ridden thousands of miles on a plugged tyre here.....have a search using puncture' and Steptoe's name and you'll see a very good example

Thanks for the heads up. I know car mechanics, agricultrual mechanics and bicycle mechanics but the motorcycle is a new venture for me. I seem to be working my way up from the rear wheel....I'll finish at some point with the electrics.

I fitted the plug as per instruction and so far it seems to be holding pressure. Most of the plug appears to be inside the wheel so I assume there is a nice mushroom. Would it be worth getting the rear re-balanced?

No, for all the plug and glue weighs it'll barely be more than the rubber that you reamed out in the fitting process.

I plugged my rear tyre, which also contained slime (which failed to hold air) and then road '000's of miles on it with no loss of pressure.

I got a puncture on a brand new tyre on my Blackbird....it had barely done 60 miles....

got it plugged and rode the bugger hard.....
