Diagnosed with diabetes last week. Impossible to effectively manage in a big dog. 50 Kg last week approx. 45 Kg this week. Had to do the necessary and put him out of his misery. He was much loved and was a real beauty with a great temprament. Will miss him greatly.:(

Handsome fella.......horribly sad when they go but think of all the good times.

Doesn't help much at the moment I know :( :comfort

He was a big boy,50kg thats bear size. You just need to remember you gave him 8 good years.Always sad but you’ve got to put them first. You just think they’ll always be around. They really get under your skin.

Awesome dog I was slobbered on profoundly (in the nicest and most loveable way :aidan) and encouraged vigorously to do extensive stroking of ears and head on the times I went to visit

If ever anyone needed proof that Rotty's could be nice dogs you never had to look any further than Banjo!

Sorry for your loss Rory and Paula. He was an absolutely Awesome friendly Loveable hound!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your canine companion, loyal and trusting, they're sorely missed when they go. Sounds like you did the right thing though, dragging it out longer would have made him suffer.

A good friend .... sorry to hear about your loss Rory.

Ah what i shame, so sorry to hear, ive had Zohan in here with me since he was 6 weeks old!!!

Any dog with that amount of slobber all over his face has got to have had a happy life!!

RIP Banjo!

Shit buckets!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. Over the years I have had working dogs which were also family pets and I trained them accordingly. On a positive note, yes it was definitely the right thing to do, although that doesn't make it any easier, and you still question your judgement. I won't be getting another dog for at least three years as I have another type(s) of shit bucket to which I have developed an emotional attachment/fixation.
