bar clamps loose

just fitted some bar risers i bought off nutty and found that the clamp bolts were loose and all of different tensions, might just be mine but might pay you to check yours

the bar clamps are tightened by the dealer after setting the bars in position, after they remove the bike from the transit crate.
maybe worth letting them know.

When you loosen the first screw on a cap the second screw on that cap is automatically loosened by the fact that you have undone the 1st screw and released the tension in the fixing!

Could it simply have been that?

Or could it have been the LC unscrew ghost, it removed the on/off button from my zumo last week whilst I was out on a run, I now have a square hole in the top of the Sat nav where the button used to be!

The same ghost unscrewed my left hand bar end screw twice (loctite cured it) and the top off my nicwax visor clean which was under my seat, the stuff ran all over the place, no damage done tho!

They are clamps - so the 'tightness' of each bolt will depend upon the other.

My understanding of these clamps is different to this. I always thought this way until recently when I learned something different (from the manual P150 and further research at the dealers to ensure my understanding was correct).

Apparently, you should do the two bolts up at the front to the recommended torque of 19Nm. Having done this the two rear bolts should be inserted and tightened also to 19Nm. Effectively the first two bolts ensure a solid base for the second two to 'clamp' the bars. I have always used witness marks on these bolts so I can tell if they are loosening as I prefer the bars to stay where I like them

Either way, if they had been tightened to the correct torque they should not come loose so if it were mine I would be talking to the supplying dealer as they put them on.

Glad the risers are OK. When I undid them though, I don't recall one being loose once I undid the top bolts.
