Hi folks,

Has anyone ever experienced white finger after prolonged riding of their GS? I was out on Sunday for a good 150miles and i was starting to suffer this after a while. So first call is I am going to balance the throttle bodies first but dont want to attempt before the mot tomorrow knowing my luck.

So was reading this post and comment number 8 was interesting talking about adding evotech heavier weights to the 1250: https://evotech-performance.com/collections/bar-end-weights

Anyone any experience of this on our hexheads? If so what sort of weight would you suggest going for?

Im also heading to the states next week so was going to buy a par of the Rox Risers 1R-AV2PPK as had good experience of these in the past and can get them for £120 approx.

Just keen to get any thoughts..

Thanks
Mark

I suffer from white finger but have only once experienced it on a GS1200 twin cam. It turned out that the throttle bodies were just within spec. A bit fine adjustment got them closer and that was the end of the issue.
Never been on a 1250 but hope this helps.

have you tried foam grips like Grip Puppies? Not only do they absorb some vibration but the increase in diameter of the bars means a more relaxed grip. I also use my cruise control a lot to flex my fingers. Mine is more about arthritis than white finger but some of the principles for relieving symptoms are the same.

I sure have, i will get them back on this one but im thinking check throttle bodies as well..

Dont grip the bars so tighly ;)

i have ridden my gs to france and back with no issues,

just a relaxed grip on the bars

my TC was hideous with the right FAR worse than the left - oddly the cross brace from the earlier adventure (still about new from some places in germany) took it from hospitalisation in 20 mins to just fucking horrible all the time

When I had my R850R and R1200R I used to suffer with this so badly my hand would go into spasms and go numb for a while after riding. I overcame it to a large extent when I started to use inner gloves, it didn't stop it entirely but has made it manageable. Works for me!

Mines the same it’s the right hand that suffers.

I’m pretty loose on the controls and did t suffer on the last bikes.

Hopefully it’s just throttle body sync.

Thanks for thoughts..

the difference in diameter is incredible... I recently realised heat shrink sleeve could be the ideal thing to take from BMWs stupid too small diameter grips back to Japanese spec normal bar diameter...

looking on flebay lots sell textured stuff for sports kit... got some 40mm to 20mm shrink and have put on ALL three of my BMW bikes and the change is weird

one the K1600 they feel OK almost too big but its a lot better everywhere and forearm issues have gone
on the GS TC I find it irritating but a bit better
on the 57plate GS its horrible and I struggle to ride it as fast - the throttle travel is now wrong - YET AGAIN BMW have messed up and on 111mm circumference its too far to comfortably bang on full throttle even for someone with big hands

the mental thing is that its only 0.7mm thick - so only 1.4mm increase in diameter so circumference change of 106mm to 111mm

Tried all sorts of things on my hex including two different types of bar weight, cross bar, and grip puppies.
Weights and puppies on the LC.
Just have to accept the consequences of being old - after about 15 mins I lose the left foream for a short while, then the pins and needles start in both.
Doc advises that its almost certainly RSI type injury, combination of some manual work and too long riding a bike. Carpel tunnel sugery is not guaranteed to fix this.
Pucker up and get on with it.

Thanks for thoughts everyone.

Well today was MOT, so thought i would balance the throttle bodies. They were out right was well down on left so got them well even at 2000rpm and 3000rpm (hate doing it as she gets hot) anyway the idle was rubbish and the throttle bodies calibrated without issue. Anyway had to head off for the MOT luckily passed no problems. Checked them again when i got back and a little tweak so will see what like.

I was still getting my fingers on the throttle hand a little numb after around 40miles even with the balanced. Various speeds from snail to hare and some fun bike just is lovely apart from this..

Maybe it is as some have said simply and age thing...

these guys almost look like they know what we need - but the website's a joke and they never thought of stating which would fit a GS - plus the gits couldn't be bothered to reply when I asked

I have these on my GSA. Mostly because the grips are in a sorry state after so many miles of riding. Very worn out .
These at least stop them from wearing more.
And they make the grips look a lot fresher.
Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out!

I found the 0.6mm heat shrink or so stuff ended up way too thick - so it went the other way - was sound on the K1600 and I left it there - but on the GS it was all wrong
