Hi all. After a couple of bits of advice….again 🙄

Pics below for reference.

Firstly, I had some up and back bar risers fitted. I’ll admit it was by a car mechanic but I do trust his judgement. I did all my research and knew about how to set the clamps (one flush and the other with the gap). As I understand, the gap should be at the rear, well in this case, the bottom?

I was with him when they were fitted and for the love of all that’s holy, the clamps would not settle other than in this position. Trying to get the “top” flush was nigh on impossible, inless we tried to force it, which we didn’t want to do.

Is there an issue with the clamp being this way round? Have we done something wrong?

Secondly, I think I would prefer to replace the bolts with some better quality ones. I’m sure they’re fine but just for peace of mind. I am due to depart to the Lakes for 6 days on Saturday so any recommendations would need to be done quick sharpish.

FYI, All bolts are now set to 19nm and bar angle set to 10 °.

Appreciate your input 😁

Are they cheap knock off Chinese ones or from a reputable manufacturer?

I ask because I bought some up and back ones off Ali express and ended up chucking them in the bin after one of the back bolts stripped the thread from the riser because it only caught on 2 turns of the riser thread before I tried tightening them to 19nM. I bought some Wunderlict ones and side by side the difference in quality was very noticeable. On the Wunderlict ones IIRC you tighten the top ones first to 19nM so they are flush, then torque the bottom ones to 19nM too leaving leaving the gap on the lower ones. In my case it was buy cheap buy twice.

This is the 3rd set I’ve bought from 3 different places. The first were Chinese ones and they were awful, the bolts seems half a mm too thin. These are much better quality and bolts were solid, just the clamps don’t seem to want to go where I want them too, which seems odd.

Have you tried turning the top caps through 180deg.?

I wonder did the mechanic remember putting the "Tall shoulder" bottom bolts into the "top holes" and the "Short shoulder" bolts into "bottom holes", Looking at the top bolts seem slightly low in their seated position.
Yes the gap should be on the bottom, as per instructions.

Video may help.

I wonder what the outcome was?

The gaps are still on the wrong side, there is no way it can be done. I think they are manufactured incorrectly, as in there isn’t enough material at the the top for it to sit flush.

Used replacement bolts and some thread lock. They survived my week tour of the lakes but will replace with wunderlich ones shortly.
