Bar Risers / Radius Risers at Nippy Normans

Hi all,

Has anybody fitted bar risers to their 1200GS/GSA , in particular the Radius Risers that move the bars both upwards & backwards ?. I have been thinking about risers for a while and the radius one's sound a good idea, but I'm not sure how much cable re-routing would be required ?

Hi, I fitted a set of these to my '08 1200GS at the weekend. Did not need to reroute any cables, though I have not tested it a lot since but do not believe anything was restricted, as there is a fair bit of slack and these don't change the position of the bars significantly.

Just need to be aware that the bar is quite heavy when you loosen the last screw and you need somewhere to rest it, ideally not on the bare tank, while you get the new risers. So worth having a decorating sheet or something similar draped under the bar for protection.

Of course you need the Torx E10 and E8 sockets for the old handlebar mount bolts.

Lastly it's probably advisable to adjust the mirrors before rushing off for a test ride, as like me you probably will not be able to see much useful in them at first.

Yup.

Fitted the Radius Risers to my '09 1200GS. I needed to pull the clutch cable through a bit to reduce strain on hard lock. No biggy to remove the cable ties and feed upwards.

Took about 15 minutes in all - well worth it!

The only downside to the risers is that the choice of tankbag is very limited due to the bars being further back. The only one I've found that fits without fouling the bars is the BMW GS slim one.

Forgive my ignorance, but why do you clamp up with the gap at the back. I know you do (indeed I did) , just don't understand why.

I have got a setfitted to a 58 model, had to retap the thread due to excess powdercoating on the risers,apart from that they are well made with gap to the rear,dont know why just looks better

I'd say it is something to do with not bowing the edges of the clamp into the bar but getting the clamp to grip the bar smoothly.

Reprom says:

Install clamping blocks (2) with screws (1). Note that it is essential to install the screws in the correct sequence: Install the front screws (as viewed in the forward direction of travel) first, then the rear screws.

Steel handlebars to fork bridge, M8 x 30, 1st front, 2nd rear -> gap at rear only (as viewed in forward direction of travel)

Could someone be nice enough and post a picture of the Radius once properly installed (with the "gap" where it should be) ?

I just bought a set of risers from Jaws in Norfolk http://www.jaws-motorcycles.co.uk/bmwgs.htm#risers for a bargain price of £22 along with a throttle lock; parts arrived within two days and they look very nicely made. Will be fitting them tomorrow and have been assured they should work with the standard tank bag.

Orderd a set of risers from NN and they were here within 48hrs looked fine so took stock ones off 1200GSA and here they were

Then fitted the Radius ones, the only quiery i have is why they give you two washers that dont size or fit anywhere?

But here they are fitted ........

no need to rr route any cables etc all good, just have to make sure they are high enough so as when on full lock you dont bash the tank! And also move your mirrors and adjust etc....

Going to road test later (Breakfast time) or is it Brunch

Gap only at back on the originals coz its only the front bolt that holds the bars onto the top yoke!

Radius Risers

Hi,

Just bought a set of radius risers from Normans, washers don't fit in the recess and one of risers is chipped, not too pleased at the moment.

Did anyone else find the washers supplied to be the wrong size??

Was thinking of getting a set of these. I'm 5'7 with a low seat and find that my right side of my neck/back gets cramps on long journeys. Would like to move the bars closer and this seems to do that. Any other options/thoughts? Looks at Jaws and they don't move the bars closer.

i have the NN radius risers

had to drop the fork tops and re route the brake hose and wiring looms to handlebar switches on both sides, clutch hose was ok

Touratech tank bag then fouled bars on the front clip when bars turned, I extended the bag strap an inch or two using some webbing and some tywraps, would be neater if sewn up but good enough for me

Ordered some Rox risers from that states and will give that a go. I like the fact that I can go up and back rather than being locked in a certain position in case the tank bag gets in the way. Will report back.

I myself fitted the Touratech riser versions to my 08 GSA since I was getting back ache with the standard bar fittings, position. Since then never been more comfortable. One thing I would stress is to make sure you use a profesional torque wrench to tighten securing bolts, one pair holds bar clamps together and the other pair (yes just two bolts) hold the clamping brackets and handlebar to the steering head assembly. I did everything correctly but was still wary when taking it out for the first time!

Tried fitting radius risers on my 2011 GS but the brake cable was way too short and pulled tight on full left hand lock so I followed the instructions and dropped the right fork leg and re-routed the the cable behind the top yolk only to find that it trapped on full right hand lock. Gave up in the end so if anyone want's a set of risers then drop me an email and they're yours for the cost of the postage.

I fitted some Rox risers and had the same issues. Make sure that all the zip ties on the yolk are cut and loosened. That worked for me! Love mine - saves my back and bike is much more responsive in the turns
