Hi,
Could anybody tell me the advantages of raising my bars, also by what height:confused:. I have seen some on motorwoks and was intrested just to enable me to mount my iphone mount.

Many thanks :thumb

You want to mount your Iphone eh?

Well I'd heard they were good, but at least try to have some decorum!

This is a family forum y'know! ;-)

Came on my bike, they raise the bars (gosh) I am 6' I find standing on the pegs easier as I am not as hunched over the front of the bike. The risers are also set back so the reach to the bars whilst seated is not such a stretch. Manoeuvring the bike whilst seated at standstill, slow speeds etc is good as well. So for me more comfort and better control.

My mate on his GS hates risers and won't fit 'em.

Likewise for me. I'm 6' and the risers made a huge difference to comfort. I used to ride slightly hunched over which gave me lower back pain and a sharp pain at the base of my neck - risers fixed this instantly.

That said, my shortarse 1200 riding mate also uses risers and says it greatly improved his comfort too - so perhaps you don't have to be tall to benefit...

I'm 6 foot and have bar risers and lowered pegs, at 80 mph I can stand up comfortably for however long I want , to give the arse a rest. On the dirt, gives you a feeling of more control IMO.

FWIW I'm 6'2" and have lowered pegs and Jaws bar risers which make a difference to my comfort on my 1150gsa.

I'm 5'10. My bike came with 35mm risers. Didn't like them so got rid. They were too high for me and made my arms ache. The ones I had could have been dropped to 25mm but prefer the ride without them.

Total height is not relevant, I have the same inside leg as my brother who is 4" shorted than me. So basing any ideas of suitablility of bar risers on height is almost pointless.

Proportions..

Eliminator has it bang on... it is down to your own body proportions.
Your body length/arm length versus position of the bars, ie height and tilt foreward or backward will determine how you sit and what your "nuetral" riding position is.

Fitting bar risers will affect this position. A lot of folks find for the good.
If you are off roading, bar risers often allow you to stand up in a straighter position and thus saving your knees from prolonged stress.

I would say, give them a try, and if they don't improve things for you, sell them on again. I doudt you would loose too much on them.

It's all about Ergonimics.

The only down side to fitting bar risers is that it isn't just the handlebars that are repositioned. All the controls and the cables move as well. By and large you shouldn't have problems with rear throw cables and hoses, as the handlebars will be moving aft and up, you may have to cut cable ties and reposition. However, you may have a problem if your hand brake hose goes direct to the fork bidge.

All this may sound obvious, and pardon me if you've already thought about it.
