Barbon Hill Climb 2011

Another day on the bike today and more bike motorsport for the 2nd day running, unusual for me

I went to Barbon Hill Climb, held in parkland near Barbon Fell with spectacular views over the Lakeland Fells - a truly wonderful venue

The Hill Climb is run over about a 3/4 mile circuit, I would estimate with a couple of good bends

Running repairs.....................Brit bike style, one this country's grand old men

As is common, looking around the bike park has its share of gems

Nice Boxer engine

A rare Norton................on spearmint acid, no doubt

An unusual use for an Africa Twin or Transalp engine

"Eigenbau" No 46 looks like a "Home Built" - name Translates from German as "do it yourself " - using a late 70's/early 80's 4 Valve Weslake Speedway Engine. Primary Chain cover ,Dry Clutch and width of rear Engine plates suggest either a Straight Drive Speedway Countershaft or possibly a Bewley 2 Speed Gearbox.

Vintage No 84 is a Flat Twin (fore and aft configuration) Douglas. Possibly ex Dirt Track (early Cinder Track Speedway-circa 20's) but running Road Wheels.

Eigenbau is exactly that...German for home built. I did Barbon hill climbs a couple of times in the past and the lad and his eigenbau is a regular there. The parkland is the `Shuttleworth Estate` and Barbon manor (at the top of the drive which forms the hillclimb) is a beautiful building.
