Barbour Jacket - or even belstaff

that the belstaff jacket? this your usual jacket or do you wear omthign else most time?

That's my standard go to jacket. If it's going to be proper wet, then I switch to a streetguard to keep my dry. Otherwise - the Belstaff through most of the year - that day, I had a goosedown underneath it but most of the time it's warm enough with the lining in. I also like it for casual wear off the bike too.

I would not hesitate in getting another one if I lost this one. :thumb2

Notice the drag marks from where I failed to let go of the bike :blast

Replace 'Belstaff' for 'Barbour' and I could have written the above. Not knocking Belstaff one bit - just a Barbour man myself :thumb2

Mav,

Just picked up on this thread as I am about to order a Trailmaster for Chrimbo. I know they have a lining and protection in the elbow and shoulders. Is there enough space in the jacket for back armour ? Similar to Barbour that gives about 8" in a 'relaxed' fit or is the Belstaff much more neat and tailored fitting jacket ?Have you ever bothered yourself with a seperate back protector ? Maybe I need to order a couple of sizes and see for myself.

Comments greatly appreciated.

Cheers :beerjug:

I'm about a 40" chest, 31" waist and I have the medium size jacket. Without the lining or back armour it's comfortably loose yet still fits back armour - you just need to go out a notch on the belt. I have the roll up back armour from Knox - I confess to being slack and not wearing it that much :blast

I happen to be in New York this week and saw four guys wearing Belstaff or Barbour jackets on the street within five minutes. They're become quite a fashion item here. Well yes, they look kinda cool. But the waxed cotton stuff is crap on bikes. Cold and clammy under all circumstances, never really dry in the wet. And they leave a greasy stain on the wall when you hang them up.

belstaff looks be great version, pitty barbour doesnt have the facility to fit armour liek the belstaff

Can't comment on your climate and Barbours but we have hot and sunny to cold and wet and I find them fine. All depends on what you wear with them as it does with every suit.

And the new sylkoil is not smelly and doesn't leave any snail trail up your wall ro anywhere else . If you're using a 10 year + old Barbour then they had paraffin / kerosene oil based waxes that were crap and smelly and oils and went very stiff in the cold.

And, John_Aero, Barbour DO make one that accepts armour in internal pockets. I think it's called the International Berliner. Not sure if it comes with armour or just the pockets in the lining to take armour. I don't use armour myself but if you wore an armoured MX shirt underneath, you'd still have the flexibility to use it off the bike without armour.

ya i was thinking of mx style armour as well but wanted make sure jacket wouldnt be tight over it

You might want to go 2 rather than the normal 1 size larger than your actual size if you want armour. That or teh Berliner but it doesn't show on the Barbour website but I have seen 2 on eBay recently.

checked online and say its a discontinued item.

must have better look around tonight when get home

To be honest - I couldn't see myself putting on MX armour for regular riding. It's heavy, cumbersome and a big item to pack/put away when you get to where you're going.

well i cant afford the belstaff sadly, barbour is only in black, the green one isnt avail just yet. so may have wait, not in huge rush, might fined used belstaff on ebay will have look

My bold .... oh yes it is :) The "75th Anniversary " International jacket is available in olive and black and can be bought at John Lewis etc and online and has been for some while. There's also the green NATO issue ones that were used by our despatch riders. I have a full NATO suit t plus a black sylkoil one which is with Barbour having the rear bellows pockets added.

I remember one was an xl on ebay. The other i forget. Wasn't interested myself so didn't make much note to be honest. About 3 weeks ago.

Mav, you are quite right: the full on MX stuff is overkill but i have seen some stuff advertised in 'Adventure Bike Rider' mag which is a long sleeved wicking shirt with thinner, more flexible armour/padding.

I have armour in my Streetguard suit but rarely bother with all that stuff.
